RESOLUTION NO. <br /> <br />6646-91 BY: <br /> <br />Boscia, Gallagher, Gazzana, <br />George, Graham, Roth, Smith <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION requesting that Governor <br />expedite completion of Ohio's Coastal Management Plan. <br /> <br />Voinovich <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Coastal <br />provides the opportunity for each <br />and protect its.coastal zone; and <br /> <br />Zone Management Act of 1972 <br />coastal state to plan, manage <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the federal CZM program affords each state the <br />responsibility to establish policies with regard t° flood and <br />erosion control, water quality, 'fish and wildlife management, <br />wetlands protection, shoreline development and public access; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Lake Erie and its 262 miles of shoreline are <br />invaluable natural, recreational, economic an aesthetic resources <br />to millions of Ohio residents; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, appropriate development of <br />Cuyahoga County is essential for the continued <br />Greater Cleveland area; and <br /> <br />the shoreline in <br />vitality of the <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, a number of conflicting uses compete for the <br />remaining undeveloped shoreline and areas which have the <br />potential for redevelopment; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, 29 of 35 eligible states and territories are <br />active participants in the federal Coastal Zone Program, which <br />enables them to effectively plan, manage and coordinate coastal <br />resources through the adoption of state policies which are <br />consistent with the intent of the federal program; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the State of Ohio has already <br />over $7,500,000 in federal monies over the past <br />participating in the Coastal Zone Program; and <br /> <br /> relinquished <br />decade by not <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the General Assembly of the State of Ohio <br />unanimously enacted coastal management legislation in November <br />1988, authorizing the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to <br />prepare a coastal Management Plan by March 1991; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, implementation of the Ohio Coastal Zone <br />Management Program and the preservation, protection and <br />enhancement of the Ohio shoreline will be endangered without the <br />timely completion of a Coastal Management Plan; <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That this Council and the <br />that Governor Voinovich expedite completion <br />Management Plan. <br /> <br />Mayor, request <br />of the Coastal <br /> <br /> Section 2.
