<br /> A RESOLUTION opposing Governor Voinovich's
<br />proposed State Budget reductions which directly impact the
<br />Lakewood City Schools.
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, Governor Voinovich has determined a
<br />budget-balancing decision affecting a reported $88.8 million
<br />cut to public education in Ohio, and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, the Lakewood City Schools
<br />experience a 1.93% cut annually, and
<br />
<br />will
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, the amount Lakewood loses during
<br />the six month period from January through June in payments
<br />is $283,704.14, and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, the Lakewood City Schools receive their
<br />state payments on a monthly basis and have already received
<br />the January, 1992 amount reduced by $47,284, the same amount
<br />to be cut in the next five payments, and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, the Lakewood Board of Education does not
<br />.know if this is the Only cut it will experience or what type
<br />of cuts will be made in the future, and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, this measure changes the entire local
<br />budget, making it especially difficult to plan
<br />appropriations for the system's fiscal years ahead, and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, in order to protect the welfare of the
<br />citizens of Lakewood this Council wishes to express its
<br />concerns and grave oppostion relative to a budget decision
<br />that any cuts be made to the education of the children of
<br />Lakewood; now, therefore,
<br />
<br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF
<br />
<br />OHIO:
<br />
<br /> Section 1. That this Council expresses its
<br />strenuous opposition to the proposed State EducatiOn Budget
<br />reductions and urges Governor Voinovich to reconsider paring
<br />education payments.
<br />
<br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she
<br />is hereby authorized to forward a certified copy of this
<br />resolution to George Voinovich, Governor, State of Ohio,
<br />State House, Columbus, Ohio 43215, Anthony C. Sinagra,
<br />Senator, State of Ohio, State House, Columbus, Ohio
<br />43266-0604, and Madeline Cain, Representative for House
<br />District 8, State House, Columbus, Ohio 43266-0603, and to
<br />Doctor Daniel Kalish, Superintendent, Lakewood City
<br />Schools, 1470 Warren Road, Lakewood, ~~ ~
