REsoLUTIoN NO. <br /> <br />6718-92 <br /> <br /> BY:Boscia, Gallagher, <br />George, Gibbons, Roth, Seelie <br />Smith <br /> <br /> A ~RESOLUTION proclaiming May 2-8,. 1992 as "Aids <br />Awareness Week" in the City of Lakewood in an effort to bring <br />greater public awareness to the issues of AIDS/HIV disease; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is the responsibility of every citizen of <br />Ohio to take action to prevent disease and promote a personal <br />healthy lifestyle; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Acqufred Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) and <br />infection with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) continue to <br />pose a major threat to our health and economic well-being; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, over 3,150 Ohioans have already been diagnosed <br />with AIDS, over 2,000 have died, and 40,000 more are likely to be <br />infected with HIV; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, by the end of 1992, the Ohio Department of <br />Health predicts that an alarming 4,000 Ohioans will be diagnosed <br />with AIDS; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, with sufficient AIDS and HIV education and <br />adherence to basic prevention guidelines, no Ohioan must <br />contract this disease from this point on; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, with a proper understanding of HIV <br />transmission, no Ohioan with HIV infection shall be discriminated <br />against based on his or her HIV status; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, through educational campaigns, the Ohio <br />Department of Health, the Ohio Department of Education, local <br />health departments, schools and universities, American Red Cross <br />Chapters, local AIDS task forces, health care providers, <br />churches, employers and other organizations are motivating <br />Ohioans to make a commitment to AIDS prevention; <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That this Council and the Mayor, do hereby <br />support May 2-8, 1992 as AIDS Awareness Week, and encourage its <br />citizens to participate in AIDS prevention and education <br />activities, making a visible statement that we are strongly <br />committed to a healthy community. <br /> <br /> Section 2.
