RESOLUTION NO. <br /> <br />6741-92 <br /> <br /> BY: Boscia, Gallagher, <br />George, Gibbons, Roth, Seelie, <br />Smith <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION designating and proclaiming the month of <br />July, 1992 as RAPE AWARENESS MONTH in the City of Lakewood. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, rape and sexual abuse affect men and women of <br />all ages, races, nationalities, and incomes, not only as victims <br />and survivors, but as families and communities; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the problems of rape and sexual abuse continue <br />undiminished in this country, and in fact, the number of reported <br />rapes has more than doubled in each of the last three decades; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is estimated that one in three females and <br />one in five males will be sexually assaulted in some way before <br />they reach 18 years of age; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, unfortunately, the public is exposed to many <br />myths, instead of facts, concerning these problems; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, more rapes <br />other month of the year; <br /> <br />are reported in July than in any <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br />Section 1. That this Council and the Mayor, for and <br />by the citizens of the City of Lakewood, hereby designate the <br />month of July, 1992, as Rape Awareness Month and urge all <br />citizens to join with the Cleveland Rape Crisis Center in working <br />to raise awareness and increase discussion concerning rape and <br />sexual abuse issues. <br /> <br /> Section 2.
