RESOLUTION NO. 6785-92 BY: Boscia, Gallagher, George, Gibbons, Roth, Seelie, Smi~ A RESOLUTION proclaiming December 1992 as National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month in Lakewood, Ohio; WHEREAS, drivers and and other drugs account for annually; and pedestrians impaired by alcohol nearly 20,000 highway deaths WHEREAS, motor vehicle crashes are the number one cause of death for children, adolescents, and young adults in the United States; and WHEREAS, alcohol traffic fatalities; and is involved in nearly half of all WHEREAS, injury and property damage resulting from impaired driving cause physical, emotional, and economic hardship for hundreds of thousands of adults and young people; and WHEREAS, a decade of intense public education effort has proved that alcohol-related highway crashes are not accidents and can be prevented; and further and WHEREAS, comprehensive community-based strategies to reduc~ and prevent impaired driving tragedies are known; WHEREAS, if we take impaired driving; now, therefore, a stand now, we can prevent BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: Section 1. That this Council and the Mayor support the goals of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention and proclaim December 1992 as National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month in the City of Lakewood. Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby authorized to forward a certified copy of this'resolution to Jonathan S. Hughes, Deputy Director, Ohio Highway Safety, 240 Parsons Avenue, P.O. 7167, Columbus, OH 43266-0563, and that a copy of this resolution be spread of the meeting.
