RESOLUTION NO. 6785-92 <br /> <br /> BY: Boscia, Gallagher, <br />George, Gibbons, Roth, Seelie, Smi~ <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION proclaiming December 1992 as National <br />Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month in Lakewood, Ohio; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, drivers and <br />and other drugs account for <br />annually; and <br /> <br />pedestrians impaired by alcohol <br />nearly 20,000 highway deaths <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, motor vehicle crashes are the number one cause <br />of death for children, adolescents, and young adults in the <br />United States; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, alcohol <br />traffic fatalities; and <br /> <br />is involved in nearly half <br /> <br />of all <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, injury and property damage resulting from <br />impaired driving cause physical, emotional, and economic hardship <br />for hundreds of thousands of adults and young people; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, a decade of intense public education effort <br />has proved that alcohol-related highway crashes are not accidents <br />and can be prevented; and <br /> <br />further <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, comprehensive community-based strategies to <br />reduc~ and prevent impaired driving tragedies are known; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, if we take <br />impaired driving; now, therefore, <br /> <br />a stand now, we can prevent <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That this Council and the Mayor support the <br />goals of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and <br />the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention and proclaim December <br />1992 as National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month in <br />the City of Lakewood. <br /> <br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is <br />hereby authorized to forward a certified copy of this'resolution <br />to Jonathan S. Hughes, Deputy Director, Ohio Highway Safety, 240 <br />Parsons Avenue, P.O. 7167, Columbus, OH 43266-0563, and that a <br />copy of this resolution be spread of the <br />meeting. <br /> <br />Adopted: <br /> <br />upon the m' s <br /> <br /> CLERK <br />Approved: ~ ~/~o~ ~~~ <br /> MAYOR <br /> <br /> <br />
