<br /> A RESOLUTION to honor area students who have been
<br />recognized as National Merit Semi-Finalists and Commended
<br />Students in the 1994 National Merit Scholarship Program; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, the City of Lakewood recognizes that it is the
<br />fortunate home to many outstanding and exemplary youthful
<br />citizens, who demonstrate their varied talents through countless
<br />constructive outlets; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation has
<br />acknowledged several Lakewood residents as having shown
<br />exceptional academic promise through their scores on the 1992
<br />Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, these 17 high school seniors, having scored
<br />within the top five percent of all 1992 program entrants, are in
<br />~the company of only 45,000 others out of a field of more than
<br />1,000,000 student participants; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, those recognized as National Merit
<br />Semi-Finalists, who may later be eligible for National Merit
<br />Scholarship awards, were Lakewood HighSchool student DAVID
<br />MALLOY, St. Edward High School student MICHAEL P. GRAHAM, and St.
<br />Ignatius High School students ROBERT S. GILLESPIE and THOMAS J.
<br />MADIGAN; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, those recognized as National Merit Commended
<br />Students are Lakewood High School students CHAD S. AHREN, JANET
<br />FLEMMING, JENNIFER L. HINK, BRIAN H. JOHNSEN, DAVID J. MATOS, and
<br />DAVID P. SCHREINER, St. Augustine Academy student KRISTIN
<br />DEMALINE, St. Edward High School student MATTHEW ZILLIOX, and St,
<br />Ignatius High School students. THOMAS "MAC" HARMAN, JASON D.
<br />KNIGHT, DAVID A. KOVALIK, ANTHONY K. MACIULUS, and'DANIEL S.
<br />WILLIAMS; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, the City of Lakewood is pleased to acknowledge
<br />all of these young people as possessing the potential to achieve
<br />great heights and contribute invaluably to society for the
<br />betterment of the futures of all of us; now, therefore,
<br />
<br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO:
<br />
<br /> Section 1. That this Council and the Mayor hereby
<br />extend to the aforementioned seventeen students its commendation,
<br />and that of all the citizens of the Lakewood Community for
<br />their academic achievements.
<br />
<br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is
<br />hereby authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of
<br />this Resolution to Lakewood High School, 14100 Franklin,
<br />Lakewood, Ohio 44107, St. Edward High School, 13500 Detroit,
<br />Lakewood, Ohio 44107, St. Augustine Academy, 14808 Lake,
<br />Lakewood, Ohio 44107, St. Ignatius High School, 1911 W. 30,
