RESOLUTION NO. 6886-93 <br /> <br />BY: Bos~a, Gallagher, George, <br /> Gibbons, Roth, Seelie, SmLth <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION extending congratulations to Amanda <br />Muliolis, Math Chairwoman of St. Augustine Academy, on <br />her work this summer training teachers in Lithuania for <br />democratic schooling, as a member of the American <br />Professional Partnership for Lithuanian Education (APPLE). <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Amanda Muliolis, who arrived in the United <br />States in 1944 from Lithuania, and her husband Algirdas <br />Muliolis, an artist with American Greetings, returned to <br />Lithuania at their own expense, to participate in the <br />American Professional Partnership for Lithuanian Education <br />(APPLE) program, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Mrs. Muliolis, as a teacher and Math <br />Chairwoman of St. Augustine Academy has taught and <br />participated in workshops for Math and Science enabling <br />her to enrich her St. Augustine ACademy students' <br />knowledge in these fields and encourage their interest, <br />and has received awards for her efforts, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, APPLE was organized soon after the <br />liberation of Lithuania by a group of American teachers, <br />many of Lithuanian descent, to assist Lithuanian teachers <br />in reconstituting their educational process, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, as a member of APPLE, Amanda assisted <br />Lithuanian teachers in the process of replacing their <br />totalitarian method of schooling with a democratic process <br />that encourages student teacher interaction, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Amanda Muliolis gave of her time and <br />resources in her effort to provide assistance to educators <br />in Lithuania's fledgling democracy and on her return to <br />the United States has enriched the lives of her students <br />at St. Augustine Academy by relating her experiences, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Amanda Muliolis has used her exceptional <br />talent and experience to assist others in.achieving their <br />goals and realizing their dreams of democratic schooling, <br />bringing honor and recognition not only to herself and the <br />American Professional Partnership for Lithuanian Education <br />but to St. Augustine Academy and our entire community; <br />now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO <br /> <br /> Section 1. That this Council and the Mayor hereby <br />extend to Amanda Muliolis praise and congratulations for <br />her contribution to Lithuanian's Schools and the American <br />Professional Partnership for Lithuanian Education and the <br />enrichment of the students, of St. Augustine Academy. <br /> <br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is <br />hereby authorized and directed to forward a certified copy <br />of this Resolution to Amanda Muliolis, c/o St. Augustine <br />Academy, 14808 Lake Avenue, Lakewood, Ohio 44107 and that <br />a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the minutes of <br />the meeting. <br /> <br /> <br />
