~ESOLUTION NO. 695S-94 BY: Boscia, Flannery, Georg~ Gibbons, Roth, Seelie, Smith A RESOLUTION to commend Frances Saunders on her induction into the Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame. WHEREAS, Frances Saunders has volunteered for her church and for the Lakewood Division of Aging for more than 12 years, contributing 2,079 hours of service to the older residents of Lakewood; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Saunders is also to be recognized for her assistance to Congresswoman Mary Rose Oakar in 1991 in exposing unscrupulous practices by some members of the insurance industry; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Saunders willingly worked undercover in a sting operation, providing evidence of actual interviews with insurance agents who attempted to convince her to purchase long-term care coverage in spite of her age and lack of need; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Saunders's subsequent testimony before the House Committee on Insurance was instrumental in Congress's legislating to make such activities illegal; and WHEREAS, the combination of Mrs. Saunders's day-to-day volunteerism and her undercover work have proven her to be one who is truly devoted to the betterment of life for her fellow senior citizens and people in general, and made her an outstand- ing choice for induction into the Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: Section 1. That this Council and the Mayor hereby extend to Frances Saunders its commendation, and that of all the citizens of the Lakewood Community for her work in the areas of community service and volunteerism and for her induction into the Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame. Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to Frances Saunders, 12540 Edgewater, #405, Lakewood, OH 44107, and that a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the minutes of the meeting.
