~ESOLUTION NO. <br /> <br />695S-94 <br /> <br /> BY: Boscia, Flannery, Georg~ <br />Gibbons, Roth, Seelie, Smith <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION to commend Frances Saunders on her <br />induction into the Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Frances Saunders has volunteered for her <br />church and for the Lakewood Division of Aging for more than 12 <br />years, contributing 2,079 hours of service to the older residents <br />of Lakewood; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Mrs. Saunders is also to be recognized for her <br />assistance to Congresswoman Mary Rose Oakar in 1991 in exposing <br />unscrupulous practices by some members of the insurance industry; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Mrs. Saunders willingly worked undercover <br />in a sting operation, providing evidence of actual interviews <br />with insurance agents who attempted to convince her to purchase <br />long-term care coverage in spite of her age and lack of need; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Mrs. Saunders's subsequent testimony before <br />the House Committee on Insurance was instrumental in Congress's <br />legislating to make such activities illegal; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the combination of Mrs. Saunders's day-to-day <br />volunteerism and her undercover work have proven her to be one <br />who is truly devoted to the betterment of life for her fellow <br />senior citizens and people in general, and made her an outstand- <br />ing choice for induction into the Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of <br />Fame; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That this Council and the Mayor hereby <br />extend to Frances Saunders its commendation, and that of all the <br />citizens of the Lakewood Community for her work in the areas of <br />community service and volunteerism and for her induction into <br />the Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame. <br /> <br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is <br />hereby authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of <br />this Resolution to Frances Saunders, 12540 Edgewater, #405, <br />Lakewood, OH 44107, and that a copy of this Resolution be spread <br />upon the minutes of the meeting. <br /> <br />Adopted: <br /> <br />ApproVed: <br /> <br /> <br />
