RESOLUTION NO. 6971-94 BY: Boscia, Flannery, George, <br /> Gibbons, Roth, Seelie, Smith <br /> A RESOLUTION commending Mayor David R. Harbarger for his <br />dedication and commitment to eliminating drunk driving in the <br />City and congratulating the Mayor on winning the 1994 National <br />City Challenge to StoP Drunk Driving "Mayor's Medal for <br />Leadership" sponsored by The United States Conference of Mayors. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Mayor David R. Harbarger has demonstrated <br />outstanding leadership by his dedication to the elimination of <br />drunk driving in the City, which has enjoyed a 13.9% decrease in <br />the number of D.U.I. arrests since 1991 and a 35% decrease in the <br />number of alcohol-related accidents since 1990; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Mayor Harbarger's commitment to educating the <br />City's young people about the dangers of alcohol and drugs is <br />evidenced in the success of the City's Drug Abuse Resistance <br />Education program; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Mayor Harbarger is a member of the Lieutenant <br />Governor's Council on Youth and Impaired Driving, which sponsors <br />innovative legislation to reduce driving by impaired minors and <br />programs to educate young people about drug and alcohol use; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Mayor Harbarger's dedication to the elimination of <br />drunk-driving in the City is further evidenced by "Lakewood <br />Cares," an educational video produced under his leadership by a <br />collaboration of community leaders, the City, and private <br />entities; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Mayor Harbarger received the "Mayor's Medal for <br />Leadership" in the 1992 National City Challenge to Stop Drunk <br />Driving; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, The National Conference of Mayors has again <br />recognized Mayor Harbarger for his commitment and dedication to <br />eliminating drunk driving in the City by awarding him the <br />"Mayor's Medal for Leadership" in the 1994 National City <br />Challenge to Stop Drunk Driving; now, therefore <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED By THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That this Council hereby commends Mayor David <br />R. Harbarger for his dedication and commitment to eliminating <br />drunk driving in the City. <br /> <br /> Section 2. That this Council hereby congratulates Mayor <br />David R. Harbarger on his winning of the "Mayor's Medal for <br />Leadership" in the 1994 National City Challenge to Stop Drunk <br />Driving sponsored by the National Conference of Mayors. <br /> <br /> Section 3. That the Clerk of Council be and she is <br />hereby authorized and directed to send a certified copy of this <br />resolution to Mayor David R.
