RESOLUTION NO. 7058-95 BY: Boscia, Flannery, George, <br /> Gibbons, Roth, .Seelie, Smith <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION to commend Lakewood High School 1995 <br />graduating senior Thomas R. Dial on achieving the status of <br />National Merit Scholarship Finalist. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation of <br />Evanston, Illinois, sponsors the extremely rigorous and limited <br />award annual Merit Scholarship competition; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, from more than one million students who <br />entered the 1995 Merit Program, only about 15,000 were named <br />semifinalists designated on a state representational basis, in <br />proportion to each state's total of high school graduating <br />seniors and all five LHS semi-finalists rose to Finalist status; <br /> <br /> .WHEREAS, Thomas R. Dial is one of five Finalists from <br />Lakewood High School out of 14,000 distinguished National <br />Finalists chosen from more than one million students who took the <br />1993 PSAT/NMSQT and recorded to present their academic, <br />biographical, and extracurricular achievements and goals; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS,_ at Lakewood High School Thomas R. Dial is a <br />member of the Track and Cross Country teams, Student Council for <br />which he planned proms and dances, National Honor Society, the <br />Watter Science Seminar for which he sought-and hosted a speaker <br />who related science to everyday life, and where he volunteered <br />to bag food for a distribution program at his best friend's <br />church; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Thomas R. Dial achieved the above activities <br />and Finalist status .while being employed part-time and his goals <br />include attending Ohio Wesleyan College; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is most appropriate that the scholastic <br />achievements of Thomas R. Dial be given public cognizance and <br />recognition. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF <br />OHIO: <br /> <br /> 1. That on behalf of the residents of the City of <br />Lakewood, the Council and the Mayor hereby extend to Thomas R. <br />Dial their heartiest congratulations and commendation on <br />achieving the status of National Merit Scholarship Finalist. <br /> <br /> 2. That the Clerk of Council be and is hereby <br />authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of this <br />Resolution to Thomas R.
