RESOLUTION NO. 7039-95 BY: <br /> Gibbons, Roth, Seelie, Smith <br /> <br />Boscia, Flannery, George, <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION to commend Lakewood High School .1995 <br />graduating senior Sarah A. Sullivan on achieving the status of <br />National Merit Scholarship Finalist. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation <br />of Evanston, Illinois, sponsors the extremely rigorous and <br />limited award annual Merit Scholarship competition; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, from more than one million students who <br />entered the 1995 Merit Program, only about 15,000 were named <br />semifinalists designated on a state representational basis, in <br />proportion to each state's total of .high school graduating <br />seniors and all five semi-finalists from LHS advanced to Finalist <br />status; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Sarah A. Sullivan is one of five <br />Finalists from Lakewood High School out of 14,000 distinguished <br />National Finalists from more than one million students who took <br />the 1993 PSAT/NMSQT and recorded to present their academic, <br />biographical, and extracurricular achievements and goals; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, at Lakewood High School Sarah A. Sullivan's <br />activities have included Marching Band, Flag Corps, Barnstormers <br />Drama Club for which she had a leading role,' National Honor <br />SOciety, recipient of the VISA award, and volunteering time to <br />organize a fifty member cookie bake for Lakewood Christian <br />Services Center; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Sarah Sullivan will attend St. Lawrence <br />University in Canton, New York to study Russian and German with <br />plans of becoming an interpreter; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is most appropriate that the scholastic <br />achievements.of Sarah A. Sullivan be given public cognizance and <br />recognition. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF <br />OHIO: <br /> <br /> 1. That on behalf of the residents of the City of <br />hakewood, the Council and the Mayor hereby extend to Sarah A. <br />Sullivan their heartiest congratulations and commendation on <br />achieving the status of National Merit Scholarship Finalist. <br /> <br /> 2. That the Clerk of Council be and is hereby <br />authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of this <br />Resolution to Sarah A.
