RESOLUTION No. <br /> <br />7~14-97 <br /> <br />BY: llosega, Coact.&3an, rtmm~v , <br /> Ge. oa. o3e, Se. eLi_e, Sag.Or <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION to the Ohio Farmland Preservation Task Force urging the <br />preservation of open space and farmland at the outer edges of fire Greater Cleveland <br />Metropolitan Region and the creation of more opportnuities for citizens and employers to remain <br />or locate in Lakew0od, other First Ring Suburbs and Cleveland. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Governor George V. Voinovich has established the Ohio Farmland <br />Preservation Task Force for the purpose of studying the loss of farmland and making <br />recommendations on methods for preserving land for agricultural production, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the policies, programs and practices of the State of Ohio have encouraged <br />development of farmland at the outer edges of the Greater Cleveland Region at the expense of <br />redevelopment and maintenance of built ¢ommanities such as Lakewood, other First Ring <br />Suburbs and Cleveland, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, these policies and practices have Undermined the economic strength and <br />attractiveness of Lakewood, Cleveland and other First Ring Suburbs, and put them at a <br />competitive disadvantage to newer and developing commUnities, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, conditions have been created that entice and push citizens and employers <br />to locate hi newer and develOping communities, and <br /> <br /> WI~REAS, growth in public funds required to service sprawling ex-urban <br />development, coupled with the erosion of economic strength in Lakewood, other First Ring <br />Suburbs and Cleveland, jeopardizes the overall economic performance of the Greater Cleveland <br />Region; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE iT RESOLVED BY THE Ci~2d OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section i That the Ohio Farmland Preservation Task Force is urged to include <br />the following in its recommendations to the Governor of the state 0f Ohio: <br /> <br />The State of Ohio policies, programs and activities should be <br />modified so as to favor redevelopment and maintenance of built <br />communities over development of new cormnunities. <br /> <br />The State of Ohio should set objectives for the metropolitan <br />regions concerning preservation of fannland and open spaces, <br />and redevelopment and maintenance of built cormntmities <br /> <br />The State of Ohio Should require that the counties that comprise <br />each metropolitan region jointly and cooperatively devise a plan <br />for meeting the State's objectives and establish mechanisms for <br />implementing such plano <br /> <br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and is hereby authorized and directed <br />to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to Ohio Farmland Task Force, Ohio Department of <br />Agriculture, 8995 East Main Street, Reynoldsburg, Ohio 43068, and that a copy of this <br />Resolution be spread upon the minutes of the meeting. <br /> <br />Adapted: <br /> <br />PRESIDENT <br /> <br />~A]YOR ~ <br /> <br /> <br />
