RESOLUTIONNO. 7;504-98 BY: Corrigan, George, Roth, <br /> Seelie, Skindell <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION to honor the Lakewood St. Edward High School 1997-98 Wrestling <br />Team as the undisputed national champion and winner of the Division I state title. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Lakewood St. Edward Eagle Wrestling Team has compiled an <br />unparalleled mark of accomplishment by winning a record ninth national title, as ranked by USA <br />Today and the Amateur Wrestling News, an Ohio record fourteenth Division I State <br />Championship, a nineteenth Division I District Championship, and a twenty-fourth Division I <br />Sectional Championship, and <br /> <br /> WttEREAS, it has become common parlance to refer to Lakewood St. Edward High <br />School as the "Home of Champions," in part due to a successful wrestling program which has <br />qualified a record 201 wrestlers for the state tournament with awesome results: 52 individual state <br />champions; 34 second place finishers; 30 third place finishers; 12 fourth place finishers; 16 fifth <br />place finishers; and, 6 sixth place finishers; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Coach Cn-eg Urbas adopted the motto "agite mete," which Wanslates from <br />Latin to read "do the right thing," to inspire this year's ream in all matters: "agite recte in the <br />classroom, agite mete on the mat, agite recte in your personal life," and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the student-athletes who wrestled in the starting line-up for the 1997-98 <br />team academically posted a median 3.2 GPA (grade point average), with a record twelve out of a <br />possible fourt~n wrestlers qualifying for this year's state tournament--a testament that each <br />student-athlete adopted "agite mete" as his creed, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this team scored 185 points at the state tournament, the fourth highest point <br />total in tournament history, due to the following individual accomplishments: Mike Kulezyeki, <br />two-time State Champion (130 lbs.); Andy Hrovat, two-time State Champion (189 lbs.); Mason <br />Lenhard, State Champion (103 lbs.); Mark Jayne, State Champion (112 lbs.); Gray Maynard, <br />State Champion (152 lbs.); Ryan Bertin, Third Place (135 lbs.); Mike Tolar, Third Place (140 <br />lbs.); Nick Nemeth, Fifth Place (145 lbs); Chris Gmcol, qualifier (125 lbs.); Ryan Fair, qualifier <br />(160 lbs.); Ryan Kinley, qualifier (171 lbs.); Matt Bradesca, qualifier (215 lbs.), and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, St. Edward High School proudly hails from the city of Lakewood, and is <br />identified in forums both academic and athletic, be it national or statewide, as Lakewood St. <br />Edward High School, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Lakewood St. Edward High School has brought distinction and honor to this <br />community for its achievements in athletics, for an outstanding academic reputation with national <br />recognition by the U.S. Department of Education as a "School of Excellence," and for remaining <br />tree to the precepts of the Catholic faith as instructed by the Congregation of Holy Cross <br />(C.S.C.); now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section I. On behalf of the res/dents of Lakewood, the Mayor and this Council <br />extend to the Lakewood St. Edward High School Eagles Wrestling Team congratulations for its <br />outstanding achievements during the 1997-98 high school wrestling season. <br /> <br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be, and she is hereby authorized and directed <br />to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to the Lakewood St. Edward High School Eagles <br />Wrestling Team, c/o Coach Gmg Urbas, St. Edward High School, and that a copy of this <br />resolution be spread upon the minutes of this meeting. <br /> <br />Approved: <br /> <br /> <br />
