Farmers' Markets have become a popular venue for residents of urban <br />communities to obtain locally grown produce; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, interest by both farmers and residents of the Ci~' has been expressed in <br />establishing a Farmers' Market within the City; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Council wishes to establish a pilot project for a Farmers' Market during the <br />Summer of 1999 in order to assess the benefits for such a market within the City. <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO <br /> <br /> Section 1. The Farmer's Market pilot project shall be limited to one day per week over an <br />eight week per/od. Said market shall be open only to producers of their own vegetables, fruits, <br />herbs, maple syrup, honey and eggs. The market is limited to natural foods including vegetables, <br />fruits, herbs, maple syrup, honey and eggs. Sale of merchandise products of any kind or flowers is <br />prohibited. <br /> <br /> Section 2. All applicants for pilot project shall submit, for approval, the names and address <br />of growers who wish to participate in said pilot project to the Director of Lakewood Public Safety. <br /> <br /> Section 3, The number of vendors for the "Market" shall be limited to not less than eight (8) <br />but no more than twelve (12) per day. <br /> <br /> Section 4. The location for the pilot market shall be subject to the approval of the Director of <br />Public Safety in accordance with the City Charter and all local, ~tate, and federal laws. <br /> <br /> Section 5. For the purposes of this pilot project only, the fee shall be $ 10.0 0 as it relates <br />to the "Farmers' Market Pilot Project." .This non-refundable Pilot Farmer's Market fee shall be paid <br />at the time of application by each vendor for each date the vendor wishes to participate. However, <br />such fee shall be waived by the Director of Public Safety provided the vendor agrees to participate <br />with the Lakewood Department of Human Services in providing educational assistance in the work <br />program at both east and west side gardens.. <br /> <br />Section 6. Director of Pubti¢ Safety shall have the right to terminate the pilot project <br />"Farmers' Market" in total or as to any individual vendor if there is any infraction of the City Health <br />code or if there is any health, safety or welfare issue as determined by the Director of Public Safety. <br /> <br /> Section 7. The Director of Public Safety shall pre~ent a set of requirements for each vendor <br />to follow as it relates to health and safety. <br /> <br /> Section 8. It is found and determined that all formal actions of the Council concerning and <br />relating to the passage of this ordinance were adopted in an open meeting of the Council, and that all <br />such deliberation of the Council and of any of its committees that resulted in such formal <br />action were in meetings open to the public in compliance with ail legal requirements. <br /> <br />Adopted: ~/~ ~22////~ <br />Approved:/,~ ~ ~/ [¢ <br /> <br />President <br /> <br /> <br />
