RESOLUTIONNO 7436-99 BY~ Corrigan, FitzGerald, George, <br /> Roth, Seelie, Skindel~, Smith <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION to recognize Lewis J Zahara~ Sr, as the recipient of the 1999 Veterans <br />Day Award <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, The Joint Veterans Commission of Cuyahoga County which <br />represents 14 veterans' organizations, presents this award annually to one veteran whose <br />continued service tO other veterans embodies the soldiers' creed of Duty, Honor and Country; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAs, as a member of the Ohio Nationai Guard, Lewis J. Zahara, Sr. proudly served our <br />country during the Korean War and in April 1953, he witnessed the detonation of an atomic <br />bomb at Yucca Flat in the Nevada desert; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Lewis J Zahara, Sr. is a patriot and he has served our country <br />along with other veterans who have received few of the accolades they so truiy deserve; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, upon his return home to Lakewood after his discharge from the <br />military in 1953, Zahara became active in Saints Cyril and Methodius Post 579 of the Catholic <br />War Veterans of the United States of America. He has served veterans with the same level of <br />commitment to Duty, Honor, core, try that he exhibited during his years of active duty; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, for Over 46 years Zahara has made extraordinary contributions to <br />veterans as a Catholic War Veteran member and officer of the post at the county and state level, <br />to his church and to the Veterans Affaks M~edical Center/Brecksville for initiating the 25-year <br />volunteer progran~i and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS} Lewis has been active in the City of Lakewood serving on the 50th <br />Amfiversary of World War II Committee, the Fourth of July Parade Committee and the Veteraos <br />Day Ceremony Committee; now therefore~ <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO' <br /> <br /> Section 1 That this Council and Mayor recognize the service and dedication of <br />Lewis J Zahara, Sr~ for his service to his county and to the City of Lakewood <br /> <br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby authorized and directed <br />to for~vard a certified copy bfthis Rasolution to Lewis J Zahara Sr <br /> <br />PR~ESIDENT <br /> <br /> <br />
