RESOLUTION NO. 7483-00 BY: Corrigan, FitzGerald, George, <br /> Roth, Seelie, Skindell, Smith. <br /> A RESOLUTION commemorating ]immie Fox)( for his outstanding <br />accomplishments in professional baseball and designating the baseball diamond at <br />Kaufmann Park as 3immie Fo)o( Field. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, 3immie Foxx was a professional baseball player from 1925 to 1945,- <br />playing with Philadelphia Athletics, Boston Red Sox, and the Chicago Cubs; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, after retiring from professional baseball, Jimmie Foxx settled with his <br />family in Lakewood and coached Class A baseball at Madison Park; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, during his career, .limmie Fox)< received the MVP award in 1932, 1933 <br />· and 1938; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in 1933 he was the third player in American League history to achieve <br />.the Tri pie Crown which is accomplished by a player having the best batting average and <br />most home runs and runs batted in during one baseball season; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, with a total of 1,921 runs batted in, .limmie Foxx is sixth on the all- <br />time list and was ranked fifteenth overall in The 100 Greatest Baseball Players by The <br />Sporting News in 1998; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, 3immie Foxx had a career batting average of .325, hitting 30 or more <br />home runs 12 straight years; he was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1951 with <br />53~ career homeruns; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, .limmie Foxx is one of professional baseball's all-time best players, <br />appearing on nearly every "Top 100" list. Now, therefore, <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF <br />OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That the baseball diamond located at Kaufmann Park is hereby <br />dedicated ~immie Foxx Field in commemoration of Foxx's dedication to and outstanding <br />career in professional baseball and his commitment to Lakewood. <br /> <br /> Section 2. It is found and determined that all formal actions of this Council <br />concerning and relating to the passage of this resolution were adopted in an open <br />meeting of this Council, and that all such deliberations of this Council and of any of its <br />committees that resulted in such formal action were in meetings open to the public in <br /> <br />compliance with all legal requirements. <br /> <br />Adopted: <br /> <br />Approved: <br /> <br />PRESIDENT <br /> <br />CLERK ~/ ¢-/ <br />MAYOR .... <br /> <br /> <br />
