government to identify revenue sources and other technical assistance for public arts programs; and WHEREAS, the cultural sector's business practices and benefits should be strengthened by: developing cultural technical assistance, service and training organizations; establishing pooled benefits progran~; creating a database of service providers; matching business volunteer expertise to cultural organization needs; creating a self-assessment model for cultural organizations; and developing a directory of exhibit and performing spaces; and WHEREAS, this Council should consider allocating a certain percentage of the cost of every major public improvement to public art; and WHEREAS, this Council should consider passing legislation that provides artists with the ability to live and work in the same space, as well as to live and work in the same building with other artists, thereby promoting and expanding arts and culture throughout the community, now, therefore: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: Section I. That this Council, for itself and on behalf of all the citizens of this community, convenes an Artists' Summit and Exhibit on Wednesday, September 25, 2002 for the purpose of promoting and supporting artists and cultural institutions in Lakewood, underscoring the importance of the arts to this community and our local economy, and to further develop, define and encourage public-private partnerships and strategies that will promote the arts in Lakewood. That the Clerk of Council be and is hereby authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of this resolution to the Lakewood Arts Coalition, the Beck Center for the Arts, the Lakewood Arts Festival, Virginia Marti College of Fashion and Design, Lakewood Public Library and Lakewood Public Schools, and that a copy of this resolution be spread upon the minutes of this meeting.
