RESOLUTION NO. 7660-02 <br /> <br />BY: Corrigan, Dunu, FitzGerald, George, <br /> Roth, Seelie, Skindell. <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION to support passage of House Bill 480 and Senate Bill <br />221 which are pending in the Ohio House and Senate, and urging that these bills be moved <br />out of committee with recommendation for passage by the House and Senate. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, House Bill 480 and Senate Bill 221 would provide <br />companion animals increased protection against acts of animal cruelty, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, House Bill 480 and Senate Bill 221 increase the penalty <br />imposed for certain acts of animal cruelty, including, but not limited to, abandomem or <br />acts of cruelty committed while committing criminal trespass, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, House Bill 480 and Senate Bill 221 prohi"oit the owner or <br />keeper of a companion anim~ from knowingly or negligently engaging in acts of cruelty <br />including, but not limited to, torturing or maiming, and falling to provide food, water and <br />shelter, and increases the penalties imposed for such acts, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Council and City Administration acknowledge that Ohio's <br />current animal cruelty laws are too lenient and acknowledge that certain acts of cruelty <br />must be strictly proht"oited and that the penalties imposed for the most heinous acts of <br />animal cruelty must be increased; now, therefore, <br /> <br />OHIO: <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF <br /> <br /> Section 1. That this Council and Administration do hereby support House <br />Bill 480 and Senate Bill 221 and urge that the House Criminal Justice Committee and the <br />Senate Judiciary Committee on Criminal Justice vote to send these Bills to the House and <br />Senate floor, as soon as poss~le, with recommendations for passage. <br /> <br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and is hereby authorized and <br />directed to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to State Representatives Ann <br />Womer Benjamin and Brian Flannery, and State Senators W.
