RESOLUTION NO 7846-04 BY' Corrigan, Demro, Dever, Dunn, <br /> FitzGerald, Madigan, Seelie. <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION supporting our Lakewood City School Disl~ict 6 5 Mill Bond Issue. <br /> <br /> WIHERBAS, the ~nture sttength and quality of our City of Lakewood heavily depends on the <br />quality of our schools; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the s~e and design o£ many of our school dassroomg th6 limitations of our <br />elementary and middJe school libraries, science labs, othez labs and features of our aging and <br />deteriora~ng school buildings can no longer meet the educational needs of our students; anck <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, our aging and deteriorating school facilities are cha~cterized by mm~liable <br />healing amd air hmTdlthg units, inef:ficient windows, inadequate lighting and inadequate electrical <br />capability that make it increasingly more expensive to maintain and run oar schooI buildings; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS our school district enrollments have decreased to the point that our current <br />building configuration is expensive to operate and no longez reflects our population; and, <br /> <br /> Wt-IEREAS, a commm~ty-wide committee, Lak~a;ood Scl~ols: Desigalng Our Next Fifty <br />Years Commi~ee, has studied these issues thoroughly ~md used a community-involvement process <br />to identify a long-range master plan for our schools; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, commtt~y forum participants overwhelmingly supported this master plan; <br /> <br /> WHEIiEAS, we are faced with the choice of contintung to make expensive repairs every <br /> year to our aging buildings--and s~II have deteriorating b~.didings that don't meet educational <br /> Needs ~nd are expensive to operate--or--we can start replacing and renovating School buildings to <br /> zmprove educatiorb reduce operating costs and prov4de our commtmity with adequate,/efficient <br /> facilities for the next 50 years md spend less over ~ime; and, <br /> <br /> _WHiERE~, ibis bond issue puts us on the path of providing a better value for Lakewood <br />and Lakewood's children by providing better educalfan and classrooms for Lakewood's students, <br />by providing safer, healthier school buildings, by streamlining the district from 14 to 10 school <br />baildings, by saving $3.2 million dollars in annual operating and maintenance costs, by costing us <br />Iess in the long rum by providing fomctional schools built for learning and built to last, and by <br />maints&ting neighborhood schools with facilities that fit the architectural character of our <br />commm~ity; now, therefore, <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWooD, STAT~ OF OHIO: <br /> <br />Section 1 That Lakewood City Council and Mayor hereby support this Iakewood City School <br />District bond issue to keep student academic achievement stsong in our schools, to keep oztr <br />Lakewood schools strong, and to help keep our city's future strong. <br /> <br />Section 2.
