RESOLUTION NO' <br /> <br />BY' Dever, Dunn, FitzGeralg <br /> Madigan, Seelie <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION declaring the week of April 5, 2004 through April 11th as Public Health Week <br /> in the City of Lakewood <br /> <br /> Whereas, over the past 50 years the United States has achieved Sigaificatu increases in life <br />expectancy mid reductions in the incidence of injury, disability and disease; and, <br /> <br /> Whereas, public !~ealth is credited with improvements in our health status and nearly 30 <br />additional years of expanded life expectancy since the turn of the 20th century; and, <br /> <br /> Whereas, public health succeeds by identifying and addressing patterns of disease, illness and <br />injury in populations; and the use Of population-based strategies for disease and injury prevention has <br />contributed to the decline in illness mid injury and unhealthy lifestyles, including heart disease and stroke, <br />tobacco-related diseases, infectious disease and motor vehicle and workplace inj~ries; and, <br /> <br /> . Whereas, Public Health Week provides the opp0rtmtity for the public to learn about public health <br />success stories including the eliininafion of polio, reduction in childhood blood lead levels, continued <br />efforts to develop methods to hnmunize populations against infectinus disease, arid main'rain good <br />nutritional standards, and <br /> <br /> Whereas, the Hamlet of Lakewood organized the first Board of Health on August 28, 1899 mhd <br />the Division of Health was established upon incorporation of the City of Lakewood in 19i 1, and, <br /> <br /> Whereas, the Departuient of Human Services, Division of Health continues to provide essential <br />public health services to the City of Lakew0od by assuring the delivery of primary and preventive <br />measures vital to healthy commudities; and, <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO' <br /> <br /> Section I That this Comlcil and Mayor designate and proclaim April 5- 11th, 2004 as Public <br />Health Week in the City of Lakewood <br /> <br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be mid she is hereby huthorized and directed to for~vard a <br />copy this Resolution to: Dottle Buckon, 12650 Detroit Avenue, Lakewood, Ohio and a copy of this <br />Resolution be spreadmpon the minutes of this meeting. <br /> <br /> Section 3.
