Sets <br />sights on Postseason <br /> <br />by Mallory Keller <br /> <br />This year's addition of the Lakewood <br />~ers volleyball team has been outstanding. <br />The girls have taken their talent and worked <br />harder then ever to accomplish the goals they <br />made ,at the beginning of the season. One of <br />thetews primary goals, beating Mentor, was <br />achieved twice. Their dominance over Mentor <br />gave the girls a new fÌI'eand mottò proving to <br />everyone that this year's te3.IJl was" no fluke.," <br />This year the va.r~ity team is lead by <br />captains Casey Biltz, Melissa Mastrodonato and <br />Monika Barsh. Juniors Britney Jurchenko and <br />Sara Mason, along with sophomores Katharine <br />Sroka, Kali Koz, Claire Krnieck, Katie Kmieck. <br />and Kayla Kovach round out the roster. <br />" I think the difference between last <br />year and this year is the pre-season. This year <br />we had a lot more experience and confidence <br />going into the regular season from playíng well <br />~d giving some good teams a challenge, for <br />example Mags," junior Britney Jurchenko said. <br />Although the girl's hard work is what <br />is makìng there 21-1 season põssible, coach <br />Brigidt Arbezuik is playing a big role in their <br />success. <br />"The girls need to concentrate on being <br />in better shape, that way when it comes down <br />to which team has more strength left, they will <br />come out on top," Arbeznik saìd. <br />The focus on conditioning has enabled <br />the girls to outlast their opponents.. This season <br />the girls are .doing a whole lot more running and <br />other drills to keep in shape. <br />Fan support for this year's team has <br />been exceptional. Not only are the players' par- <br />ents attending games, so are a lot of their fellow <br />students. The girl's voll~ball games have been <br />jam packed with fans all year. The first confer- <br />ence championship since 1989 has a lot to do <br />with the attendance. <br />~ the hard work that the girls put in <br />at practice everyday and how clöse we an got <br />really showed on the court," sophomore Katha- <br />rine Sroka saìd about their winning season. <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />ewood Times· <br /> <br />Captain Monika Botsh added, (We <br />have a young team with great chemistry and <br />lots of talent. We're a very well rounded team <br />and I think that's what makes us stronger then <br />any other team we come up against." <br />The girls started competing in the <br />regional games, starting with a match against <br />Normandy High School. A victorywill advance <br />the Lady Raugers ou to play the Maguificat! <br />Padua winner. <br />The girls have come this far, and it <br />looks as if all their hardwork is paying off. For <br />the past 3 years the girls volleyball program has <br />been building, and winning the conference just <br />may be the beginning of many great accom- <br />plishments to come tills postseason. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />ct er <br />
