Amended on the floor 12/20/0q. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO' <br /> <br />7950-04 <br /> <br />BY· Corrigan~ Demro~ Dever~ Dunn, FitzGerald <br />Madigan, See lie. <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION to form a commission to explore the ramifications of implementing a <br />Clean Indoor Air Act to protect the health of workers and families In the City of <br />Lakewood <br /> <br />WHEREAS smoking is the leading cause of preventable death and hàs negative health <br />impacts on people at all stages of life, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS secondhand tobacco smoke is Ohio's third leading cause of preventable <br />death and harms the unborn, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and senior citizens, <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS the practice of smoking has hidden costs to consumers and non-smoking <br />citizens including astronomical health care expenses and takes an untold emotional toll <br />on families and friends of those who watch users of tobacco die of terrible respiratory <br />illnesses and cancers, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS all well-designed, peer-reviewed, and truly scientific research studies that <br />use objective measures such as sales tax receipts, bankruptcies, and employment data <br />while controlling for other changes in economic conditions have concluded that laws <br />requiring bars and restaurants to be smoke-free had no impact or a positive impact on <br />sales and employment, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS the Republic of ireland. along with the states of California. Connecticut, <br />Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, and New York require all restaurants and bars to be <br />one hundred percent smoke free and Florida, Idaho, and Utah require all restaurants to <br />be one hundred percent smoke free, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS local organizations such as the Academy of Medicine of Cleveland, the <br />Center for Families and Children, the Center for Community Solutions, the Cleveland <br />Clinic Foundation, the Cuyahoga County Board of Health, the Empowerment Center of <br />Greater Cleveland, University Hospitals Ireland Cancer Center, Recovery Resources <br />and the Visiting Nwses Association support a Clean Indoor Air Act in the City of <br />Lakewood, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD.
