<br />RESOLUTION NO. <br /> <br />7960-·05 <br /> <br />B1f: Corrigan, Demro, Dever, Dunn, <br />FitzGerald, Madigan, Seelæé~. <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION to support the work of Adoption Network Cleveland and the Adopt <br />Cuyahoga's Kids Initiative and to encourage the citizens ofLakewood to support efforts to <br />provide all children a safe, nurturing and permanent family <br /> <br />WHEREAS; Adoption Network Cleveland is a unique non-profit organization that was <br />founded in 1988 to provide adoption information, support, education and advocacy for adoptees, <br />birth parents and adoptive pareots, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Recently Adoption Network Cleveland was selected by United Way's <br />Strong Families = Successful Children Community Vision Council to. undertake the Adopt <br />Cuyahoga's Kids Initiativè; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, The Adopt Cuyahoga's Kids Initiative is a strategic and comprehensive <br />projept to ensure that every waiting child is found a permanent, safe and nurturing adoptive <br />familY; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, There are over 6,000 children in Ohio awaiting adoption and over 1,500 <br />children are awaiting adoption here in Cuyahoga County; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, When youth reach adulthood without families ("aging out" of the foster <br />care system), they face high risk of unemployment, teen pregnancy and homelessness; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Funded by the Cuyahoga County Board of Commissioners, the Cleveland <br />and Gund Foundations, United Way and the Community Vision Council, the Adopt Cuyahoga's <br />Kids Initiative works to remove barriers to adoption, increase adoption opportunities and <br />identity, recruit and support mentors and "permanency champions" for older chddren who face <br />adolescence and adulthood without pennanency; now therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO' <br /> <br />Sectioo 1. That the City ofLakewood supports the work of Adoption Network Cleveland and <br />the Adopt Coyahoga's Kids Initiative and to encourage the citizens of Lake wood to support <br />efforts to provide all children a safe, nurturing and permanent family <br /> <br />Section 2 That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby authorized to spread a copy <br />of this resolution upon the minutes of this meeting. <br /> <br />Section 3. It is found and detennined that all fonnal actions of this Council concerning <br />and relating to the passage of this resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this Council, <br />and that all such deliberation of Council and of any of its committees that resulted in such formal <br />action were in meetings open to the public in compliance with all legal requirements <br /> <br /> <br />Adopted J-.J~ 7, ;}06')- 0 ~.~ <br />~t <br />7. <br /> <br /> <br />Apptoved: :Jlh.
