<br />RESOLUTION NO' 7997-05 <br /> <br />BY' Corrigan, Demro, Dever, Dunn, <br />FitzGerald,Madigan, Seelie. <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION acknowledging the efforts of the Lakewood Initiative for <br />Financial Education (LIFE) partners and volunteers to increase financial literacy and <br />Earned Income Tax Credit filing among Lakewood Residents <br /> <br />WHEREAS. the LIFE campaign began in June 2003 to increase the <br />number of income-eligible Lakewood residents who file for the Earned Income Tax <br />Credit, one of the federal government's anti-poverty efforts; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the LIFE partners include representatives from the City of <br />Lakewood, Lakewood Public Library, the Internal Revenue Service. Volunteers in Tax <br />Assistance (VITA), Lakewood Christian Service Center, the Community. Lakewood <br />Hospital, the Lakewood YMCA and Lakewood City Schools; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in 2004 and 2005, VITA and LIFE volunteers provided <br />countless hours in the provision of income tax self-preparation clinics and financial <br />lite¡acy seminars held at the Lakewood Public Library; and, <br />; <br /> <br />WHEREAS, During the 2004 tax season, the LIFE self preparation tax <br />clinic filings totaled 54 and VITA volunteers completed 132 returns for a total of <br />$80,60000 in EITC dollars returned to the community; and, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO' <br /> <br />Section 1. That this Council and Mayor acknowledge the efforts of the <br />Lakewood Initiative for Financial Education partners and volunteers to increase financial <br />literacy and Earned Income Tax Credit filing among Lakewood Residents <br /> <br />Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby authorized and <br />directed to forward a copy of this Resolution to Director Kenneth Warren, Lakewood <br />Public Library, 15425 Detroit Avenue, Lakewood, Ohio and that a copy of this <br />Resolution be spread upon the minutes of this meeting <br /> <br />Section 3 It is found and determined that all formal actions. of this Council <br />cOQcerning and relating to the passage of this Resolution were adopted in an open <br />meeting of this Council, and that all such deliberations of this Council and of any of its <br />committees that resulted in such formal action were in meetings open to the public in <br />compliance with all legal requirements <br /> <br />Adopted 'h1. ú~1 Itt :M6.S'" <br /> <br />~-~ <br /> <br />PRESIDENT <br /> <br />Approved' <br /> <br />1Æ'1 <br /> <br />---- <br />0; 7ò05 <br />, <br /> <br /> <br />d"C <br />
