RESOLUTION NO 8081-06 <br /> <br />BY: Antonio, Butler, Damro, Dever, <br /> FitzGerald, Madigan, Seelie. <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION in support of House Bill 293 authorizing boards of <br />county commissioners to establish property tax payment linked-deposit programs to assist <br />senior citizens and disabled residents in the payment of property taxes on their <br />hmnesteads <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, according to the 2000 census data, 18% of Cuyaimga County <br />households are headed by persons 65 years of age or older, and as many as 1,000 Iow <br />income senior households are facing foreclosure for delinquent property taxes in the <br />coming year alone, mid <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, House Bill 293 would allow counties to establish customized <br />link-deposit programs with participating lending instithtinns to provide low-interast loans <br />to eligible seniors and disabled persons for payment of property taxes, and <br /> <br /> ,WHEREAS, House Bill 293 would allow more seniors and disabled <br />persons to remain in their homes, and would benefit communities by reducing <br />foreclosures and the accompanying bli~t and decline in property values caused by <br />vacant properties which are not being maintained; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF <br /> <br />OHIO: <br /> <br /> SECTION I That this Council hereby declares its snpport of House Bill <br />293 and urges its passage by the General Assembly and approval by the Governor <br /> <br /> SECTION 2. That the Clerk of Council is hereby directed to forward a <br />copy of this Resolution to Governor Robert Taft, State Senator Daniel R. Brady, State <br />Representative Michael Skindell and Cuyahoga County Treasurer James Rokakis~ <br /> <br /> SECTION 3 That this Resolution shall take immediate effect and be in <br />full fume immediately upon its adoption by the Com~cil and approval by the Mayor in <br />order to meet legislative deadlines provided it receives the affirmative vote of at least five <br />of its members elected to Council, otherwise, it shall take effect and be in force after the <br />earliest period allowed by law. <br /> <br /> SECTION 4.
