RESOLUTIONNO 8087-06 BY'Antonio, Butler, Dever, FitzGerald, <br /> <br /> A P,.ESOLUT[ON opposing President Bush's proposed FY 2007 cuts to the CDBG Program and other programs <br />vital to the community of Lakewood; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT (CDBG) PROGRAM has been in existence <br />since 1974 and is celebrating 32 years of providing local governments with the resources ~equked to meet the needs of <br />persons of low- and moderate-income, and; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the C~ty of Lakewood recognizes that the COMMUNITY DEVELOPMBNT BLOCK GRANT <br />PROGRAM fosters pm'tnersbJp between goverrmlent, business and non-profit organizations, and tha* the services funded <br />by the Progrmn, which are delivered by the City of Lakewood, and by non-profit organizations, rely heavily on the <br />combined efforts of this partaership; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, under the current system 22,473 low- and moderate4ncome residents of the City of Lakewood are <br />eligible for services administered tln-ough programs funded by the CDBG program; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, under the proposed plan, progrmns that greatly imprdve the standard of living for low- and <br />moderate-income residents of the City of Lakewood would be eliminated or drastically cut in their scope of service; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the total mount of CDBG funding to be received in FY 2006 by the City of Lakewood is <br />$2,236~i99; and, <br /> <br /> WI~REAS, the total amount of CDBG hinds received by the City of Lakewood has been approximately $58 <br /> million which as leveraged nearly $i00 million of private investment in this City; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS with the proposed cuts, the City of Lakewood would no longer be able to support services and <br /> programs that are critically importm~t to its efforts to repair its rapidly aging infrastructure and housing stock; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, President Bush's 2007 proposed Budget would thrther cut and/or ehmmate the CDBG, Sectton 108 <br />Loan, Economic Development Initiative and the Brownfield redevelopment program, thereby negatively impacting the <br />C ty's ability to help and encourage businesses to expand job opportunities for low- and moderate-income residents, and <br />to retain businesses in the City of I~akewood. Now- therefore; <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THt~ CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO' <br /> <br /> Section t. The City of Lakewood hereby stands opposed to the proposed funding reductions and elimination of <br />the CDBG and other federal programs that serve the City of Lakewood residents so well and hereby petitions the US <br />Congress and the Bush Administration to recognize the outstanding work being done locally and nationally by the <br />COM1MUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT PROGRAM, and its vital importance to the community <br /> <br /> Section 2 The Clerk of Council is hereby directed to forward a certified copy of this Resolution immediately <br />upon p~msage and approval to the President of the United Slates <br /> <br /> Section 3 It is found and determined that all formal actions of this Council concerning and relating to ti{is <br />Resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this Council, and that ali deliberations of the Council and of any of its <br />committees that resulted in such formal actions were ih meetings open to the public in compliance with all legal <br />requirements <br /> <br /> President <br /> <br />Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
