RESOLUTION NO 8093-06 BY' Antonio, Butler, Demro, Dever, FitzGerald, <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION to honor area students who have been recognized as National <br />Merit Sen'd-Finalists and Comraended Students in the 2006 National Merit Scholai-ship Program. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, The nafiofiwide pool of National Merit Semifmalists represents less <br />than 1% of hlgh school serdors and includes the highest scoring entrants hi each state, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, of the over one million students who entered the National Merit <br />Scholarship Competition by taking the PSAT in their junior year, about 16,000 are named <br />semifinalists and most of those go on to become finalists, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, these fmalists then compete for 8,200 scholarships worth over $33 <br />ntillion; scholarships being awarded in the spring, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation has acknowledged <br />several Lakewood residents as having shown exceptional academic promise through their scores <br />on the 2005 lh'eliminar7 SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test; and <br /> <br /> 5VHEREAS, the students recognized as National Merit Senti-Finalists, who may <br />later be eligible for National Merit Scholarship awards are Marc Camovale, Brynn Gorbach- <br />Foster, Adrienne Strong, and <br /> <br /> WlI~REAS, the 2006 National Merit Coannended Scholars are Sam <br />Bocchicchio, Charles Bulger, Brett Cushing, Sarah Malanowsld, Colleen Murrett, and Audrey <br />Newbacher; now, therefore, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, National Merit Commended Scholars are recognized for their <br />outstanding achievement and high academic promise. Of the over one ntillion students who <br />entered the National Merit Scholarship Competition by taking the PSAT i~l their junior year, <br />about 34,000 are named Commended Scholars; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Lakewood High School is proud to announce its National Merit <br />Scholars form the Class of 2006' <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1 That this Council and the Mayor hereby extend to the aforementioned <br />students its cormnendation, mid that of all the citizens of the Lakewood Community for their <br />academic achievements <br /> <br /> Section 2 That the Clerk of Council be and is hereby authorized and directed to <br />forward a certified copy of this Resolution to Lakewood High School, 14100 Franklin Avenue, <br />Lakewood, Ohio 44107, and that a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the minutes of the <br />meeting. <br /> <br />Adopted: <br /> <br />Approved: <br /> <br />Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
