ResolutlOn No 8130-06 BY~ Antonio, Butler, Demro, Dever, <br /> FitzGerald, Madigan, Seelie.. <br /> A RESOLUTION in support of H,R. 676 and H B 263, allowing for our country <br /> and state to address the plight of the millions of Americans who lack health insurance. <br /> Whereas, approximately 45 million Americans currently go without health <br /> insurance, among them more than 1.2 million Ohioans, and <br /> Whereas, the United States is currently the only industrialized nation without a <br /> comprehensive health caze insurance system, and <br /> Whereas, responsible U.S. and Ohio businesses currently must shoulder the <br /> burden of providing health insurance for their employees, putting them at a competitive <br /> disadvantage to their foreign competitors, and <br /> 4Vhexeas, under the current patchwork of private insurance plans, Americans Brill <br /> spend approximately 15% more per household than. other industdalizednations, despite <br /> all the restrictions of their coverage, and <br /> Whereas, H.R. 676, pending in the U S House of Representatives, and H.B 263, <br /> pending in the Ohio House of Representatives, would address the health care crisis by the <br /> creation of a single payer network in or country and state, respectively, and <br /> Whereas, this body has previously endorsed the single payer approach as a <br /> solution to the health care crisis; now, therefore, <br /> BE TT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO <br /> Section 1. That tMs Council and Mayor hereby declare its support of .HR. 676 and H.B 263 and <br /> urge their passage by the respective bodies. <br /> SECTION 2. That the Clerk of Councitis hereby directed to forward a copy of this Resolution to <br /> the Clerks of the Ohio Geneml Assembly and U.S. House of Representatives. <br /> SECTION 3. That this Resolution stall take immediate effect and be in full force immediately <br /> upon its adoption by the Council and approval by the Mayor in order to meet legislative deadlines provided <br /> it receives the affnmative vote of at least five of its members elected to Council, otherwise, it shall take <br /> effect and be in force after the eazliest period allowed by law <br /> SECTION 4.
