RESOLUTION 8180~07 NO: Antonio, Butler, Fi:ezO~rald, <br /> Madigan, Seelie. 7~ <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION to proclaim the week of Junel6, 2007 as Dignity of Human <br />Rights Pride Week in Lakewood, Ohio, thereby recognizing the LGBT <br />community for its many and varied conhSbutions that have enriched our civic life <br />and aided in creating a more accepting and diverse society and community <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Lakewood as a community values human rights above all and respects the <br />dignity and worth of each individual; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the last weekend in June, 2007 marks the 37th anniversary of the Stonewall <br />Rebellion in New York City's Greenwich Village The Stonewall Rebellion is commonly <br />regarded as the advent of the modem civil rights movement for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, <br />transgender (LGBT) community and contributes to the universal recognition of civil and <br />human rights for ail; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, visibility and strength in diversity is critical to secure equal right~ for all <br />Americans; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Lakewood City Council is committed to equal rights for all Americans <br />an~ strongly opposes discrimination th any form based on sexual identity, sexual <br />orientation, race, religion, gender, physical ability, national origin and age; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Lakewood is pleased and honored to celebrate the week of June <br />16, 2007 with the GLBT community of Lakewood and the Pride Committee of Greater <br />Cleveland, <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE <br />OF OHIO' <br /> <br />Section 1 That the Lakewood City Council, proclaims the week of Junel6, 2007 as <br />D~gntty of Human Rights and Pride Week m Lakewood and ~s proud and honored to <br />recognize [,akewood's LGBT Pride community Best Wishes for an enjoyable <br />celebration. <br /> <br />Section 2 That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby authorized and directed, to <br />spread upon the minutes of this meeting, a copy of this Resolufiun~ <br /> <br />Section 3 It is hereby found and determined that all formal actions of this Council <br />concerning and relating to the passage of this Resolution were passed in open meetings of <br />this Couucil, and that all such deliberations of this Council and any of its committees that <br />resulted in any such formal action, were in meetings open to the public, in eompliance <br />with all legal requirements including the City's charter and Codified Ordinances. <br /> <br />Adopted:~ ~ ~ 7 <br />Approved: ~/~-~ ~,, <br /> <br />PRESIDENT OF COUNCIL <br /> <br />ct~ oF/coUNc~m0 <br /> <br />MAYOR ~/ / J <br /> <br /> <br />
