Butler, Demro, Dever, <br /> FitzGerald, Madigan, Seelie. <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION acknowledging the efforts of the Lakewood Initiative for <br />Financial Education (LIFE) partners and Volunteers in Tax Assistance (VITA) to <br />increase financial literacy and Earned Income Tax Credit filing among Lakewood <br />Residents <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the LIFE campaign began in June 2003 to increase the <br />number of ineome~eligible Lakewood residents who file for the Earned Income Tax <br />Credit, one of the federal government's anti-poverty effods; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the LIFE partners include representatives from the Lakewood <br />Public Library, the Internal Revenue Service, and the City of Lakewood Department of <br />Human Services; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS for many years prior and upon the addition of the LIFE clinics <br />in 2004 VITA and LIFE volunteers provided countless hours n the ProvisiOn of free <br />income-tax self-preparation clinics and financ a teracy seminars held at the Lakewood <br />Public Library; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, In 2007, VITA volunteers conducted free tax preparation <br />clinics at Lakewood Public Library, completed 206 total income-tax returns With 62 <br />returns qualifying for EITC bringing $82,082.00 of EITC Doliars to Lakewood residents <br />and a total net refund of $232,609.00; and, <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED E3Y THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That this Council and Mayor acknowleage the efforts of the <br />Lakewood Initiative for Financial Education partners and volunteers to increase financial <br />literacy and Earned Income Tax Credit filing among Lakewood Residents <br /> <br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby authorized and <br />directed to forward a copy of this Resolution to Director Kenneth Warren, Lakewood <br />Public Library, 15425 Detroit Avenue, Lakewood. Ohio and that a copy of this <br />Resolution be spread upon the minutes of this meeting. <br /> <br /> Section 3.
