Approved'~'7 A RESOLUTION to congratulate Michelle Sikes on representing the United States in the 5,000 Meter Run at the 2007 World Track and Field Championships in Osaka, Japan WHEREAS, Michelle Sikes won the 5~000 Meter Run at the 2007 NCAA Track and Field Championships, held in Sacramento, California, on June 8th, in a NCAA meet and American collegiate record time of 15'16 76; and, WHEREAS, Michelle Sikes earned the distinction as the first female athlete from Wake Forest University to win a national title in track and field; and, WHEREAs, Michelle Sikes a 2008 U S Olympic Trials qualifier, was selected by the U S Olympic Committee to participate in the U S Olympic Ambassador program; and, WHERE.~S, MJchelle Sikes, now a professional runner sponsored by Nike, garnered the following athleti0 and academic honors in her collegiate career: a five-time Ali-American in Cross Country and Track and Field, a three- time team member of the NCAA Academic Ali-American team, a three.lime Atlantic Coast Conference champion, a three-time Ali-ACC Academic team in Track and Field and Cross Country, the 2007 U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Scholar Athlete of the Year, and the 2007 ACC Student-Athlete of the Year; and, WHEREAS, Michelle Sikes, a 2007 Summa Cum Laude graduate of Wake Forest University in Mathematical Economics, was selected as an American Rhodes Scholar, and will continue her studies at .the University of Oxford Now, therefore; BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEwOOD, STATE OF OHIO' Section 1 That this Council and Mayor extend to Michelle Sikes this expression of pride in her accomplishments and appreciation for the fine publicity she has brought to our community Section 2, That the Clerk of Council be and is hereby authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to Michelle Sikes, 1673 Arthur Avenue, Lakewood, Ohio 44107, and that a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the minutes of this meeting Section 3 It is found and determined that all formal actions of this Council concerning and relating to the passage of this resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this Council, and that all such deliberations of this Council and of any of its committees that resulted in such formal action wece in meetings open to the public in compliance with all legal requiremehts Adopted, .fi2_ 0~7~- .
