RESOLUTION NO.: 8195-07 <br /> <br />BY: Antonio, Butler, Demro, Dever, <br />FitzGerald, Madigan, Seelie. <br /> <br />Approved'~'7 <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION to congratulate Michelle Sikes on representing the <br /> United States in the 5,000 Meter Run at the 2007 World Track and Field <br /> Championships in Osaka, Japan <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Michelle Sikes won the 5~000 Meter Run at the 2007 NCAA <br /> Track and Field Championships, held in Sacramento, California, on June 8th, in a <br /> NCAA meet and American collegiate record time of 15'16 76; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Michelle Sikes earned the distinction as the first female <br /> athlete from Wake Forest University to win a national title in track and field; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAs, Michelle Sikes a 2008 U S Olympic Trials qualifier, was <br /> selected by the U S Olympic Committee to participate in the U S Olympic <br /> Ambassador program; and, <br /> <br /> WHERE.~S, MJchelle Sikes, now a professional runner sponsored by <br /> Nike, garnered the following athleti0 and academic honors in her collegiate <br /> career: a five-time Ali-American in Cross Country and Track and Field, a three- <br /> time team member of the NCAA Academic Ali-American team, a three.lime <br /> Atlantic Coast Conference champion, a three-time Ali-ACC Academic team in <br /> Track and Field and Cross Country, the 2007 U.S. Track and Field and Cross <br /> Country Coaches Association Scholar Athlete of the Year, and the 2007 ACC <br /> Student-Athlete of the Year; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Michelle Sikes, a 2007 Summa Cum Laude graduate of <br /> Wake Forest University in Mathematical Economics, was selected as an <br /> American Rhodes Scholar, and will continue her studies at .the University of <br /> Oxford Now, therefore; <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEwOOD, STATE OF OHIO' <br /> <br /> Section 1 That this Council and Mayor extend to Michelle Sikes this <br /> expression of pride in her accomplishments and appreciation for the fine publicity <br /> she has brought to our community <br /> <br /> Section 2, That the Clerk of Council be and is hereby authorized and <br /> directed to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to Michelle Sikes, 1673 <br /> Arthur Avenue, Lakewood, Ohio 44107, and that a copy of this Resolution be <br /> spread upon the minutes of this meeting <br /> <br /> Section 3 It is found and determined that all formal actions of this <br />Council concerning and relating to the passage of this resolution were adopted in <br />an open meeting of this Council, and that all such deliberations of this Council <br />and of any of its committees that resulted in such formal action wece in meetings <br />open to the public in compliance with all legal requiremehts <br />Adopted, .fi2_ 0~7~- . <br /> <br /> <br />
