RESOLUTION NO. 8263-08 BY: Antonio, Bullock, Butler, Dever, <br />Madigan, Powers, Summers. <br />A RESOLUTION honoring St. James Catholic Church on its 100th <br />anniversary. <br />WHEREAS, St. James Catholic Church offered its first Mass to Catholic <br />families 100 years ago in what was then Lakewood Village, and <br />WHEREAS, from its humble beginnings in an empty storeroom at 15607 <br />Detroit Avenue to its magnificent and beautiful structure today at 17514 Detroit Avenue, <br />St. James Parish has offered many Lakewood citizens a cherished atmosphere in which to <br />experience all aspects of life's events, and <br />WHEREAS, the guiding principles of St. James parish such as concern for <br />others, commitment to the common good, and compassion for all flows out to the greater <br />community, and <br />WHEREAS, today St. James Church provides a wide variety of <br />community outreach programs among which include day care services, youth activities, <br />adult education, counseling services, and community meals, and <br />WHEREAS, it is only fitting and proper that St. James Church be honored <br />on its 100th anniversary for both reflecting and helping to shape the fabric of our inspired <br />City; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF <br />OHIO: <br />Section 1. That St. James Church is hereby afforded honor and <br />recognition through a formal Resolution in order to give public cognizance to its 100 year <br />history as an institution providing faith and hope to its parishioners and the greater <br />Lakewood community. <br />Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and is hereby authorized and <br />directed to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to St. James Church, 17514 Detroit <br />Avenue, Lakewood, Ohio, 44107, and that a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the <br />minutes of this meeting. <br />Adopted: Gvsk ~,0~ //l7 <br />PRESIDENT <br />Approved: ~ <br />
