Powers, Summers <br />A RESOLUTION declaring October, 2008 as National Arts and Humanities Month in the City of <br />Lakewood. <br />Whereas, the City of Lakewood is home to a rich and eclectic arts and culture community; <br />Whereas, the month of October has been recognized as National Arts and Humanities Month by <br />thousands of arts and cultural organizations, communities, and states across the country, as well <br />as by the White House and Congress for more than two decades; <br />Whereas, the arts and humanities embody much of the accumulated wisdom, intellect, and <br />imagination of humankind; <br />Whereas, the arts and humanities enhance and enrich the lives of every American; <br />Whereas,.-the arts and humanities play a unique role in the lives of our families, our communities, <br />and our country; <br />Whereas, the nonprofit arts industry also strengthens our economy by generating $166.2 billion in <br />total economic activity annually and by supporting the full-time equivalent of 5.7 million jobs; <br />now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br />Section 1. That this Council and Mayor do hereby proclaim October 2008, as National Arts and <br />humanities Month in Lakewood, Ohio and call upon our citizens to celebrate and promote the arts <br />and culture in our nation and to specifically encourage the greater participation by those said <br />citizens in taking action for the arts and humanities in the community. <br />Section 2. Section 2: That the Clerk of Council be and is hereby authorized and directed to <br />forward a certified copy of this Resolution to the Lakewood is Art organization, and that a copy <br />of this Resolution be spread upon the minutes of this meeting. <br />Section 3.
