RESOLUTION NO: 8812-08 BY: ANTONIO, BULLOCK, BUTLER, DEVER, MADIGAN, POWERS, SUI~AfERS. A RESOLUTION acknowledging the efforts of the Lakewood Initiative for Financial Education (L.I.F E.) partners to increase Earned Income Tax Credit filing among Lakewood residents. WHEREAS, the L.I.F.E. campaign began in June 2003 to increase the number of income-eligible Lakewood residents who file for the Earned Income Tax Credit, one of the federal government's anti-poverty efforts; and, WHEREAS, the LIFE partners include representatives from the Lakewood Public Library, the Internal Revenue Service, the Lakewood Department of Human Services and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program volunteers who selflessly provided countless hours in the provision of free income-tax preparation clinics; and, WHEREAS, in the 2008 filing season, L.I.F.E. V.I.T.A. site volunteers prepared 198 returns, 97% of these submitted by a-file. The returns brought in over $175,993.00 total net refund including $54.,922.00 EITC dollars plus an estimated fees savings of $39,600.00 for a total economic impact of $215,593.00; and, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO Section 1. That this Council .and Mayor acknowledge the efforts of the Lakewood Initiative for Financial Education partners and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program volunteers to increase Earned Income Tax Credit filing among Lakewood Residents. Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby authorized and directed to forward a copy of this Resolution to Director Kenneth Warren, Lakewood Public Library, 15425 Detroit Avenue, Lakewood, Ohio and that a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the minutes of this meeting. Section 3. It is found and determined that all formal actions of this Council concerning and relating to the passage of this Resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this Council, and that all such deliberations of this Council and of any of its committees that resulted in such formal action were in meetings open to the public in compliance with all legal. requiremerits.
