BY: Antonio, Bullock, Butler, Madiagan, '?~~-.,.
Powers, Summers.
A RESOLUTION honoring Milan Stankovich on retiring from the City of Lakewood.
WHEREAS, upon his retirement, those of us who have been enriched by his invaluable contributions, reflect on the history of his work life; a cazeer with two
Beat chapters• The first, working in the Streets Department for 37 years, where he made days less difficult for fellow citizens on their way to work and for
students going to school by plowing the streets after snow storms; clearing fallen trees and debris after wind storms; and repairing sidewalks and sewers, and
WHEREAS, his work ethic and likeability factor were so highly rated, he rose to the rank of Assistant Superintendent and unbeknown to him within two
months after his retirement from the Streets Department in 1991, the second chapter of Milan's work life would soon begin, and
WHEREAS, confident of his proven commitment to Lakewood, city officials wisely coaxed him back to another job--manning the front desk at city hall, and
WHEREAS, Milan, as the Sentinel of City Hall, pu[ a kind and helping face on Lakewood. His soft-spoken voice, constant gentleness and charming accent
did for City Hall security what no public relations campaign could ever do: bring a human touch to city government, and
WHEREAS, for almost 18 years he graced city hall with his inimitable charm and helping hand in keeping with his sweet demeanor, he often surprised budget
hearing participants by proudly dispensing indescribably delicious cookies--compliments of his wife Gloria's homemade baking--treats that miraculously made
unbearable meetings bearable, and
WHEREAS, as a proud Slovak, he was generous in teaching his language to any willing learner, he attended Sts. Peter and Paul Church, (now known as Grace
Lutheran) which boasted a history of welcoming many Slovak immigrants--an integral part of Lakewood's rich ethnic heritage, and
WHEREAS, embarking upon his retirement chapter, we wish him the best of lady luck in his occasional visits to favorite casinos where he has, time and again,
by engaging the slots parlayed his civic duty in generating tax revenues that support school budgets for the youth of our country, and
WHEREAS, his retirement will free up time for Milan to make more frequent visits to Vysna Slana, Slovakia, the home town of his family and friends, from
which Milan's positive and affable DNA can be traced, and
WHEREAS, this azea is known Urroughout Europe for its spectaculaz frozen cave, must surely be on alert when Milan visits--for his warm personality would
surely melt the iciest of caves in any ]and; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO:.
Section 2. That Lakewood Council and Mayor would like to officially pay homage to the question;."where's your Capka?" -- a phrase which seemed to
reflected Milan's concern for the well-being of all of us in our chilly Lake Erie City and in this spirit we wish to tip our Capka to you, Milan, with hopes you
will return often and allow •us to emulate your warm welcome.
