RESOLUTION NO. 8487-11 BY: Bullock, Butler, 7uris, Madigan, <br />Nowlin, Powers, Smith. <br />A RESOLUTION commemorating the 100s' anniversary of the incorporation of Lakewood into <br />a City and declaring 2011 as Lakewood's City Centennial. <br />WHEREAS, Lakewood's Council Minutes dated February, 6, 1911 include a communication <br />from Mayor Cotabish referencing a letter from the Secretary of State proclaiming the population <br />of the Village of Lakewood by the federal census of 1910 to be 15,181, and <br />WFIEREAS, Lakewood's Council Meeting of Febmary 20, 1911 shows that the Village of <br />Lakewood had been officially set under the new heading of City of Lakewood, and <br />WHEREAS, the first City Council under this new heading numbered six and included Messrs. <br />Burton, Chrisford, Gormsen, Smith and Tyler with Mr. Mills being absent that evening, and <br />WHEREAS, the agenda for this momentous first City Council Meeting included a report from <br />the "Water Committee" making a recommendation to the Mayor for a subsidiary agreement, a <br />recommendation from the "Lighting Committee" for the installation of a light on Arthur Avenue, <br />a notification to Athens Avenue residents regarding their new water main, a confirmation of a <br />settlement for Alvina Peters for her case against the Village totaling $600.00 and also on that <br />night City Council saw a demonstration of a model police and fire call system along with a <br />proposal for 24 call boxes, and <br />WHEREAS, in transforming itself from a quaint hamlet to amid-sized city, Lakewood <br />has retained its small-town sensibility and down-home flavor while it expanded into a major <br />suburb, and <br />WHEREAS, it is only fitting and proper that Lakewood's historical transition from settlement to <br />hamlet, hamlet to village and village to city be given public cognizance and recognition. in a <br />formal resolution; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br />Section 1. That this Council commemorate and celebrate Lakewood's 100`" anniversary of its <br />incorporation into a City and declaring 2011 as Lakewood's City Centennial. <br />Section 2: That the Clerk of Council be, and is hereby authorized and directed to spread this <br />Resolution upon the minutes of this meeting. <br />Adopted: ~ (~ w. ~... 7. ~y ( / <br />Approved: ~0 <br />//~ d <br />PRESIDENT <br />7 <br />CLERK <br />MAYOR <br />
