RESOLUTION NO. 8500-11 BY: Anderson, Bullock, Juris, Madigan, <br />Nowling, Powers, Smith. <br />A RESOLUTION to proclaim the week of June 25, 2011 as Dignity of Human Rights Pride Week <br />and recognizing the Cleveland Pride Committee and the LGBT community for its many and varied <br />contributions that have enriched our civic life and aided in creating a more accepting and diverse <br />society and community. <br />WHEREAS, Lakewood as a community values human rights above all and respects the dignity and <br />worth of each individual; and <br />WHEREAS, the last weekend in June marks the anniversary of the Stonewall Rebellion in New York <br />City's Greenwich Village. The Stonewall Rebellion is commonly regarded as the advent of the <br />modern civil rights movement for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) community and <br />contributes to the universal recognition of civil and human rights for all; and <br />WHEREAS, visibility and strength in diversity is critical to secure equal rights for all Americans; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the Lakewood City Council is committed to equal rights for all Americans and strongly <br />opposes discrimination in any form based on sexual identity, gender idenfity orientation, race, <br />religion, gender, physical ability, national origin or age; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Lakewood is pleased and honored to celebrate the week of June Z5, 2011 <br />with the LGBT community of Lakewood and the Pride Committee of Greater Cleveland; now, <br />therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br />Section 1. That the Lakewood City Council, proclaims the week of June 25, 201 I as "Dignity of <br />Human Rights and Pride Week" in Lakewood and is proud and honored to recognize Lakewood's <br />LGBT Pride committee. Best Wishes for an enjoyable celebration. <br />Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby authorized and directed, to spread upon the <br />minutes of this meeting, a copy of this Resolution. <br />Section 3. It is hereby found and determined that all formal actions of this Council concerning and <br />relating to the passage of this Resolution were passed in open meetings of this Council, and that all <br />such deliberations of this Council and any of its committees that resulted in any such formal action, <br />were in meetings open to the public, incompliance with all legal requirements including the City's <br />charter and Codified Ordinances. <br />Adopted: 2G 2U <br />Approved: ~xi 2~ ~~ <br />
