RESOLUTION N0. ?g t°~-~~ BY: Anderson, Bullock, .Turfs, Madigan, <br />Nowlin, Powers, Smith. <br />A RESOLUTION to take effect immediately provided it received the affirmative <br />vote of at least five (5) members of Council or otherwise, or otherwise it shall take <br />effect and be in force after the earliest period allowed by law, authorizing the Mayoras <br />the Director of Public Safety to enter into an agreement with the Ohio Attorney General <br />to accept and expend funds for the City's Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) <br />program in the amount of $53,570 to continue to educate young people of the City of <br />Lakewood as to the hazards of alcohol and drugs. <br />WHEREAS, the Division of Police (Police) has operated the Drug Abuse <br />Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program since 1990; and <br />WHEREAS, the Police are currently operating D.A.R.E. programs in all elementary <br />and middle schools within the City; and <br />WHEREAS, the D.A.R.E. program has a positive influence on the young people of <br />the City through education as to the hazards of alcohol and drugs; and <br />WHEREAS, the number of students participating in and graduating from the <br />D.A.R.E. prdgram increases annually; and <br />WHEREAS, this Council by a vote of at least five (5) of its members determines <br />that this resolution is an emergency measure, and that this resolution shall take effect <br />at the earliest date possible as set forth in ARTICLE III, SECTONS 10 and 13 of the <br />SECOND AMENDED CHARTER OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, and that it is necessary for <br />the immediate preservation of the public property, health and safety, and to provide for <br />the usual daily operation of municipal departments in that the City of Lakewood has <br />received and award in the amount of $53,570 for the continued operation of the <br />D.A.R.E. program from the Ohio Attorney General's office and must return a singed <br />agreement by July 5, 2011. Now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br />Section 1. That the Mayor as the Director of Public Safety is hereby authorized <br />to enter into an agreement with the Ohio Attorney General to accept and expend funds <br />for the City's Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program in the amount of <br />$53,570. <br />Section 2. It is found and determined that all formal actions of this Council <br />concerning and relating to the passage of this resolution were adopted in an open <br />meeting of this Council, and that all such deliberations of this Council and of any of its <br />committees that resulted in such formal actions were in meetings open to the public, in <br />compliance with all legal requirements. <br />
