RESOLUTION NO. 8647-13 BY' Anderson, Bullock, Juris, Madigan, Nowlin, Por?ers, Smith. A RESOLUTION commending Lakewood High School sophomore Grace Roberson on being named a national Gold Medal winner in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards competition presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers. WHEREAS, Grace Roberson has achieved this highest honor by her entry in a national competition with more than 185,000 works submitted from more than 50,000 shidents in grades 7-12 from across the nation, and WHEREAS, the Gold Medal represents the most outstanding work in the nation, in the Poehy category for hvo poems she submitted as a collection, and WHEREAS, entries were judged by professionals in visual and literary arts on their originality, technical skill and emergence of personal vision and voice, and WHEREAS, Ms. Roberson credits afourth-grade teacher for opening her eyes to her writing skills and also credits her Lakewood High School English teachers, Shane Sullivan and Jennifer Lewis for encouraging her passion for writing, and WHEREAS, Ms. Roberson will join other national winners selected from the 1,500 who advanced from their regional competitions to be honored at Carnegie Hall in New York City May 30 - June 1, 2013, and WHEREAS, Grace Roberson has ably and with distinction demonstrated her appreciation for the written word and the sensitivities of poetic expression; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: Section 1. That this Council and Mayor hereby commend Grace Roberson on achieving the honor of Gold Medal winner in Scholastic Art & Writing by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers. Section 2. That this Council and Mayor look to Ms. Roberson for continued displays of great skill in arranging words that evoke a deeper understanding of life's many mysteries; Section 3. That the Clerk of Council be and is hereby authorized and directed to fotlvard a certified copy of this Resolution to Grace Roberson and that a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the minutes of the meeting.
