RESOLUTION NO. 8766 -14 <br />BY: Anderson, Bullock, Madigan, <br />Marx, Nowlin, O'Leary. <br />A RESOLUTION supporting the grant application and authorizing any necessary agreements <br />required by the Division of Police with the Ohio Attorney General's Office for funding for the City's <br />Drug Abuse Resistance Education program, and commending the Division of Police for its continued <br />efforts to educate young people of the City of Lakewood as to the hazards of alcohol and drugs. <br />WHEREAS, the Division of Police (Police) has operated the Drug Abuse Resistance Education <br />(D.A.R.E.) program since 1990; and <br />WHEREAS, the Police are currently operating D.A.R.E. programs in all elementary and middle <br />schools within the City; and <br />WHEREAS, the D.A.R.E. program has a positive influence on the young people of the City <br />through education as to the hazards of alcohol and drugs; and <br />WHEREAS, over 17,000 students have participated in the D.A.R.E. program since inception; and <br />WHEREAS, funding to support the continued operation of the D.A.R.E. program is available <br />from the Ohio Attorney General's office, now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, OHIO: <br />Section 1. The Mayor and the Council hereby support the grant application by the Division of <br />Police and to authorize any necessary agreements with the Ohio Attorney General's Office for the <br />funding for the city's Drug Abuse Resistance Education program and authorize any agreements required <br />to accept any funds awarded under the program. <br />Section 2. The Mayor and Council hereby support the Division of Police for its continued efforts <br />in educating young people of the City as to the hazards of alcohol and drugs. <br />Section 3. It is found and determined that all formal actions of this Council concerning and <br />relating to the passage of this resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this Council, and that all <br />such deliberations of this Council and of any of its committees that resulted in such formal actions were <br />in meetings open to the public, in compliance with all legal requirements. <br />Adopted: C A7 ? e, <br />Approved: <br />resi ent <br />
