RESOLUTIONNO. 8798 -15 BY: Anderson, Bullock, Juris, Madigan, <br />Marx, O'Leary. <br />A RESOLUTION to take effect immediately provided it received the affirmative vote of <br />at least five members of Council, or otherwise to take effect and be in force after the earliest pe- <br />riod allowed by law, authorizing the Mayor (Director of Public Safety), to enter into an agree- <br />ment to accept a grant from the Federal Bureau of Justice Services through the Ohio Criminal <br />Justice Services Office in the amount of $8,000 and requiring a match by the City of Lakewood <br />in the amount of $888.89. <br />WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Justice has identified Lakewood Police Department <br />as a jurisdiction eligible for funding under this grant; and <br />WHEREAS, the funding specifies that monies be used for law enforcement programs and <br />may be used for the purchase of equipment used directly by law enforcement to reduce crime; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, these funds will be used to staff special assignment cars and patrolling <br />Lakewood's parks from April through September; and <br />WHEREAS, this Council by a vote of at least five of its members determines that this <br />resolution is an emergency measure, and that this resolution shall take effect at the earliest date <br />possible as set forth in Article III, Sections 10 and 13 of the Second Amended Charter of the City <br />of Lakewood, and that it is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public property, <br />health and safety, and to provide for the usual daily operation of municipal departments in that <br />this agreement is necessary to purchase vital equipment necessary for public safety services in <br />the City of Lakewood; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, OHIO: <br />Section 1. The Mayor (Director of Public Safety), is hereby authorized to enter into an <br />agreement to accept a grant from the Federal Bureau of Justice Services through the Ohio Crimi- <br />nal Justice Services Office in the amount of $8,000 and requiring a match by the City of Lake- <br />wood in the amount of $888.89. <br />Section 2. It is found and determined that all formal actions of this Council concerning <br />and relating to the passage of this Resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this Council, <br />and that all such deliberation of the Council and any of its committees that resulted in such for- <br />mal action were in meetings open to the public and in compliance with all legal requirements. <br />Section 3. This resolution is hereby declared to be an emergency measure necessary for <br />the immediate preservation of the public peace, property, health, safety and welfare in the City <br />and for the usual daily operation of the City for the reasons set forth and defined in the preamble <br />to this resolution, and provided it receives the affirmative vote of at least five members of Coun- <br />
