RESOLUTION NO. 8838 -15 BY: Anderson, Bullock, Juris, Madigan,

<br />A RESOLUTION to commend Mary Louise Madigan for her public service as a member
<br />of Lakewood City Council.
<br />WHEREAS, Mary Louise Madigan won election to the Ward 4 Council seat in
<br />November, 2003, and was re- elected two additional terms, totaling twelve years on Council,
<br />serving as Council President in 2011, 2014, and 2015, and
<br />WHEREAS, among her many and varied contributions, she is accredited with
<br />reestablishing the city's Block Watch program, contributing to the creation of the city's nuisance
<br />abatement law and its enforcement process, placing regular updates from Public Works,
<br />Housing, and Planning & Development departments on Committee of the Whole agendas for the
<br />benefit of all councilmembers, enabling updates for a more user friendly Charter, created Dana's
<br />Legacy to commemorate loved ones at our parks, and
<br />WHEREAS, Ms. Madigan has long championed the City's eastern neighborhoods even
<br />before it was fashionable; encouraging development, routinely walking her ward, personally
<br />tackling issues on behalf of local business owners and residents, fiercely advocating for Madison
<br />Park upgrades, supporting investments in arts and culture in her beloved Birdtown and beyond,
<br />and cherishing her talks with those in her ward of diverse ages and backgrounds, and
<br />WHEREAS, she is known to enthusiastically participate in no superficial way at
<br />community events often eschewing her place and position and rolling up her sleeves to sweep
<br />floors, bag litter, set out chairs, clean tables, run errands, and all to make Lakewood look its best,
<br />and
<br />WHEREAS, during her twelve years on Council Mary Louise Madigan brought to the
<br />table confident, measured, and effective leadership along with delicious homemade cookies and
<br />sharp Irish wit; now, therefore,
<br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO:
<br />Section 1. That this Council and Mayor wish to commend Mary Louise Madigan for
<br />her perseverance, commitment and outstanding public service as Councilmember, Ward 4 and
<br />wish her success, health and happiness in the years to come.
<br />Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and is hereby authorized and directed to fonvard a copy
<br />this Resolution to Ms. Mary Louise Madigan and that a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the
<br />minutes of the meeting. , „
