Budget Priority Submission Form
Finance Committee
Due Sept 12, 2016
Title: Pool Equipment To Improve Usability of Pools
Submitted by: Tom Bullock and Cindy Marx
Departments to be involved: Public Works; Recreation Department (Lakewood City Schools)
Potential community partners: LECPTA, Recreation Department
Which of the following goals does your priority address? Clneck all that apply
Safe & Secure
✓ Economic Development
✓ Other
Vibrant Neighborhoods
✓ Sound Governance
1. Provide a narrative description of your idea in 250 words or less. Attach a separate sheet if necessary:
Acquire additional equipment for pools at both Lakewood and Madison Parks to improve seating, shading, and other auxiliary
functions that make pools as currently configured more user friendly.
2. Briefly explain how this will benefit the community:
Our pools get heavy use by users of all ages. The facilities provide the only affordable access to swimming for many families. They
are expensive assets maintained by the City. For all these reasons, it makes sense to enhance the user experience to make it more
enjoyable and accessible. Lack of sufficient seating and shade has come up as a top complaint. These problems should be solvable at a
modest cost.
3. Estimated expense (provide a range):
We propose to make available up to $25,000 for additional deck chairs, shade - providing canopies, and other auxiliary equipment
4. Briefly summarize any proposals or discussions from the past that are related to this priority, if applicable.
This proposal comes fi•om community input on the LECPTA and other Facebook pages as well as face -to -face feedback from
residents (as well as direct experience).
5. Briefly describe any preliminary discussions you have had with colleagues, the administration and /or relevant department
directors about this priority, if applicable.
Cindy Marx and Tom Bullock both expressed support in passing for the general sentiment expressed on community forums. Dir. Pao
has provided information on the topic on those same forums.
11Page
