Provide a narrative description of your idea in 250 words or less. Attach a separate sheet
if necessary: With regular resident feedback related to their curbs and those of surrounding
residences and businesses, I am proposing a modest amount of funding specifically for removal
and replacement of the "worst of the worst" curbs in the city. This would be in addition to the
regularly budgeted 500' of curb replacement found in CDBG and Capital project bids. This
funding could be divided evenly by ward or in another equitable format.
2. Briefly explain how this will benefit the community:
With most road repaving work not including comprehensive curb replacement as part of the
overall project, this project would benefit the community in terms of overall safety (i.e. pieces
breaking off of old curbs), erosion prevention on tree lawns, and aesthetics.
3. Estimated expense (provide a range):
Using the city's average cost of $45 per foot for removal and replacement of curbs, I am
proposing 2,000 feet of curb for replacement. This amounts to an estimated $90,000 for the
project. To aid in keeping costs down, I would envision doing a set amount of projects
simultaneously on an annual basis, rather than to react intermittently to every curb issue.
4. If applicable, summarize any proposals or discussions from the past that are related to
this priority. I have not found anything related in the recent past.
35
