RESOLUTION NO. 8997 -18 BY: Anderson, Bullock, George, <br />Litten, O'Leary, O'Malley, Rader. <br />A RESOLUTION to recognize the service of the Lakewood Police Department and law <br />enforcement officials everywhere during National Police Week 2018. <br />WHEREAS, there are approximately 900,000 law enforcement officers serving in <br />communities across the United States, including the 100 sworn officers of the Lakewood Police <br />Department, and; <br />WHEREAS, under the leadership of Chief Malley, the Lakewood Police Department has <br />demonstrated its commitment to maintaining the highest degree of community safety through <br />proactive community policing, incorporation of the latest technologies, and embrace of the most <br />cutting edge training, and; <br />WHEREAS, in 2017, LPD responded to over 52,000 public safety calls, averaging a <br />response time of 3.42 minutes from the time of dispatch for priority 1 calls, and <br />WHEREAS, this Council and Mayor hereby observe May 15th as National Peace <br />Officers Memorial Day, when we pause to remember the more than 20,000 law enforcement <br />officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty over the course of history, including 128 <br />officers in 2017; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO <br />Section 1. That this Council and Mayor hereby designate Sunday May 13th to Saturday, <br />May 19th 2018 as National Police Week in Lakewood by extending appreciation to the <br />Lakewood Police Department and peace officers across the nation for their services and <br />sacrifices in the interest of public safety. <br />Section 2. That the Clerk of Council is hereby authorized and directed to forward a <br />certified copy of this Resolution to the Division of Police and that a copy of this Resolution be <br />spread upon the minutes of the meeting. <br />Section 3. It is found and determined that all formal actions of this Council concerning <br />and relating to the passage of this resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this Council, <br />and that all such deliberations of this Council and any of its committees that resulted in such <br />formal action, were in meetings open to the public, in compliance with all legal requirements. <br />Adopted: <br />Approved: 11,24 � � L �j <br />
