RESOLUTION NO. 9054 -19
EIN
Anderson, Bullock, George, Litter,
O'Leary, O'Malley, Rader
A RESOLUTION to express gratitude to Lakewood United Methodist Church for
opening its doors to serve as a 24/7 warming center for the community during last week's
dangerously cold temperatures.
WHEREAS, much of the country, including Ohio was affected by last week's polar
vortex which resulted in multiple days of sub -zero temperatures in Lakewood; and
WHEREAS, anticipating these frigid temperatures, the congregants and faith leaders at
Lakewood United Methodist Church mobilized quickly to provide a welcoming, safe, and warm
place to anyone in need throughout this weather event; and
WHEREAS, following the lead of Lakewood United Methodist Church's pastors,
approximately 50 congregants and community members rallied together to provide warm food,
entertainment, and camaraderie to the warming center's guests; and
WHEREAS, the warming center humbly hosted approximately 25 people each day that it
was open and approximately 10 people each night that it was open, diverting these individuals
from experiencing otherwise unsafe conditions; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, OHIO:
Section 1. That this Council and Administration does hereby thank Lakewood United
Methodist Church Pastors Laura Jaissle and Dan Bryant for their leadership in establishing the
24/7 warming center for the community during last week's dangerously cold temperatures.
Section 2. That this Council and Administration does hereby express gratitude to the
congregants of Lakewood United Methodist Church and other community volunteers who
supported the warming center by donating food and supplies and otherwise making the center a
welcoming and cheerful environment for those in need.
Section 3. It is found and determined that all formal actions of this Council concerning
and relating to the passage of this resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this Council,
and that all such deliberations of this Council and any of its committees that resulted in such
formal action, were in meetings open to the public, in compliance with all legal requirements.
Adopted:
Approved: Fo
