Discussion: Councilmember Bullock stated that out of respect for the points voiced by Vice <br /> President Anderson, that he is open-minded to committee referral. <br /> Motion by President O'Leary, seconded by Councilmember Rader to refer to Public Works <br /> Committee. <br /> Callum Holland—2053 Arthur Ave. <br /> Callum spoke in support of Resolution 9099-19. He spoke about his research as a member of the <br /> Harding Green Team. He asked about the recent changes in plastics recycling in Lakewood. <br /> President O'Leary & Mayor Summers explained the reason for the recent changes, noting that the <br /> economics of plastics recycling is dependent on the price of oil. Recently, markets overseas have <br /> stopped buying US plastics for recycling. In the past few years, the City would get paid for its <br /> recyclables and now, it must pay to dispose of them. <br /> Vice President Anderson remarked on our society's continued dependence on crude oil. <br /> Richard Beck—Magadore <br /> Mr. Beck spoke in support of Resolution 9099-19, representing the Portage Trail Group of the Sierra <br /> Club. He urged politicians on all sides to come together around climate change. He thanked Council <br /> for bringing these topics to the forefront. <br /> Dave Simons—University Heights <br /> Mr. Simons spoke in support of Resolution 9099-19, as a co-chair of the Sierra Club's Energy <br /> Committee. He thanked Council for bringing this issue forward. He expressed optimism that 100% <br /> clean energy is possible and cost effective. He spoke about the need for action on climate issues. <br /> Cathy Cowan Becker—Grove City <br /> Ms. Becker spoke as Chair of the Ready for 100 Campaign. She thanked Council for supporting the <br /> initiative. Lakewood will be City 141 in Ohio. She spoke about the need to take action on climate <br /> change and what other cities are doing. She laid out the blue print for how to achieve the goals of the <br /> resolution and expressed optimism that the goal is achievable. <br /> Chad Stephens—Cleveland <br /> Mr.Stephens urged Council to adopt Resolution 9099-19 tonight and discussed the urgency of climate <br /> change. He urged all cities and communities to be accountable and do their parts. He spoke of the <br /> importance of Lakewood being a leader on this issue. <br /> Glenn Campbell—15305 Lanning Ave. <br /> Mr. Campbell thanked Council for introducing and considering this. He noted that while some residents <br /> may need persuading on this issue, that many are very supportive. He spoke about the expertise, <br /> resources, and passion among citizens for this issue. <br /> Councilmember Rader remarked about the role of citizens in bringing this item to the docket. <br /> Tom Collins—Garrettsville <br /> 6 <br />
