class time and travel time on non-scheduled workdays, plus all expenses (tuition, lodging, meals, mileage, <br />and other related expenses). <br />9.03 Anyone attending a local seminar will be entitled to travel time from the City of Lakewood to said <br />location. Local is defined as within a fifty (50) mile radius of the City of Lakewood, which includes the <br />City of Akron. <br />9.04 For purposes of this Article, a week commences on Sunday and ends on Saturday. Employees who <br />are attending a five (5) day seminar, Monday through Friday, will be permitted the calendar day before and <br />the. calendar day alter as off time. Employees who are attending any other approved, non -local educational <br />course shall receive eight (8) hours off plus travel time the day before. Upon completion of the training, the <br />employee will report to their next regularly scheduled tour of duty. <br />ARTICLE 10 <br />SENIORITY <br />10.01 A current seniority list shall be maintained at all times and shall govern the following: <br />A. Vacation and holiday selections among the unprompted ranks will be selected on the basis of <br />seniority of the original appointment date. <br />B. Seniority shall be broken when an employee quits or resigns, is discharged, is laid off for more <br />than two (2) years, fails to report for work when recalled from layoff within seven (7) days from <br />the date on which the employee receives notice of recall by certified mail. at is the member's <br />obligation to notify the City of any change of address. The City shall forward notice required by <br />this Section to the last address supplied by the employee.) <br />10.02In the event of a reduction in force, the employees with the greatest seniority shall be retained <br />10.03 For purposes of this Article, Appendix B sets forth the order of seniority for bargaining unit employ- <br />ees within their respective classifications. <br />ARTICLE 11 <br />POSTING OF NOTICES <br />11.01 Within ten (10) days of an opening at Station 2 or Station 3, or an opening at Station I for the <br />promoted ranks, Truck Company 1, and Car 2 driver, which becomes available as a result of resignation, <br />retirement, transfer or detailed reassignment as Assistant Mechanic or Fire Inspector, the City shall post a <br />notice of said vacancy at each Station for ten (10) consecutive days. Stations shall be staffed as follows: <br />Station 1 Station 2 Station 3 <br />-1214 em to ees fatal R7 employees total 9-7 employees total - - <br />11.02 Members who wish to be considered for the assignment shall file a written request with the Assis- <br />tant Chief no later than the end of the posting period. All applications timely filed will be reviewed by the <br />Chief and considered for filling the assignment. Department needs, in terms of balancing the experience, <br />abilities and skill of the members within each firefighting company will govern the selection for the assign- <br />ment.
