(pg. 202) <br /> Motion by President O'Leary, seconded by Vice President Anderson to receive & file the <br /> communication. <br /> Discussion: In response to a question from Councilmember O'Malley, Director Butler <br /> clarified that these agreements have been ratified by the union membership. He also <br /> explained the reason that the Fire Union's pattern of wage increases differs from that of the <br /> administrative employees and those being considered by other unions. Basically, the Fire <br /> union advocated for the change in order to benefit more senior employees preparing for <br /> retirement. <br /> Councilmember O'Malley stated his preference to act on these contracts tonight. <br /> Councilmember George sought legal counsel from Director Butler to find out if she ought to <br /> abstain from the vote as a previous employee at Medical Mutual and with family members <br /> working there. <br /> Director Butler stated no concerns about a conflict, stating that he can not see any way in <br /> which the Councilmember would benefit from voting on the agreement. He provided a status <br /> update on the other pending negotiations. He explained the rationale behind increasing the <br /> employee portion of health benefits and that unions are supportive of this. <br /> 20 <br />
