Mr. Wise agreed to provide a populated 30 year PPA and follow up with a 25 year FMD chart a <br /> day or two afterward. Councilman Bullock mentioned the possibility of applying for a NOPEC <br /> grant to offset the cost of the project, which could be applied to a new inverter. <br /> Communication from Councilmember Bullock regarding Midwest Green Transportation <br /> Forum & Expo. (referred to Public Works Committee 10/7/19) <br /> Councilman Bullock focused on implementing idle reduction systems and electric side arm <br /> loader refuse vehicles and asked James Holman, fleet manager, if he had any in mind. Mr. <br /> Holman is in the process of identifying refuse vehicles and indicated his department has the <br /> capacity to take on two idle reduction systems by next driving season as a pilot program. The <br /> cost of the systems is $4,000 or less, including installation, and the payback on them should be <br /> similar to LED streetlights (4-5 years) or better. Public Works looked into implementing Grip <br /> Idle Systems on police cars last year, but there were limitations on available equipment. Changes <br /> have been made to make the systems (live statistics, trouble shooting, calibration, etc.) more <br /> mobile from vehicle to vehicle and attractive. The systems have a potential to carry a 50% <br /> reduction in idle time, which helps from a mechanic's view because they cause less wear and <br /> tear on an engine. Some idle management systems also can have triggers for temperature, <br /> voltage, and can be programmed to start the engine when the door of the car is opened. <br /> In regard to electric refuse trucks, the committee found from Mr. Holman that the upfront cost is <br /> large, but some of the cost can be recovered over time. Maintenance on the vehicles is attractive <br /> because there's no hydraulics involved with these types of trucks. Many of the models are <br /> coming from new manufacturers, which makes Mr. Holman wary, however MACK Truck is <br /> running a full stage version in New York. Councilman Bullock noted that there may be an <br /> opportunity to apply to the Ohio EPA for a grant to help with funds for purchase of these trucks <br /> and that the mark up on refuse vehicles is lower compared to other electric vehicles. Councilman <br /> Anderson stated he supported these proposals due to the cost analysis that can be done on them <br /> to prove their worth. <br /> The meeting was adjourned at 7:02 p.m. <br />
